         <title>Chapter 1.1 -&amp;nbsp; Basic Computer Components </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A computer has two main parts: </div><div><br></div><ol><li><strong>Software</strong>: The one that gives instructions.</li><li><strong>Hardware</strong>: The one that turns the instructions into actions, it contains electrical,mechanical and electronic components. Depending on their function they are called: input, output, storage devices or system units</li></ol><div><br></div><div><strong>Input devices</strong>: allow the data and instructions to enter the computer, the most important are keyboard and pointers (mouse). </div><div>The <strong>keyboard</strong> has 105 keys, each with a different use and instruction, while the mouse allows to control the screen-based system. </div><div>There are other<strong> Input devices</strong>, such as microphone (audio input that can either be previously installed or connected externally through a port), video camera (similar characteristics as the microphone, commonly named webcam), digital cameras (capture images electronically), scanners (transfers images or texts into formats that can be read by a computer), sensors (measures different types of data and sends it to a computer so it can be processed), digitizing tablets (for art, have a special pen that controls the line width depending on how hard you press) and biometric devices (read a characteristic to compare with a previously saved code).</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Output devices</strong>: components that show information to their users. Some examples are the monitor, printer and speakers.</div><div>The monitor shows the results of a task process, like text, video or even graphics.</div><div>There are many types of monitors:</div><ul><li><strong>LCD:</strong> produces images by manipulating light</li><li><strong>Plasma:</strong> creates images through lighting up small panels of fluorescent light.</li><li><strong>LED:</strong> made up by light emitting diodes that light up when receiving an electric impulse.</li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong>Printers </strong>display text and graphics on paper or transparencies, one of the main things that produce a high quality work is the printing resolution: the clarity of the printed images and texts. Clarity is measured by dots per inch (dpi), a good printer should have 900 dpi but they can reach to the 2400 dpi. </div><div>Here are some characteristics of printing resolutions:</div><ul><li><strong>Ink injections</strong> provide good quality in black and white or in color works. </li><li><strong>Laser printers </strong>have excellent black and white or color printing quality, but are most likely to be used on large amounts of materials. </li><li><strong>Dot matrix printers</strong> have the alternative of printing carbon copies and are used for light works. They are used for text and graphing in black and white. </li><li><strong>Solid ink printers</strong> produce light colors that are ideal for graphic printing. </li><li>Ink sublimation printers have great color quality and are often used printing digital photography. </li><li><strong>3D printers</strong> create a physical model based on a virtual one, using polymers and plastics. </li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong>Audio systems</strong> require a card that converts digital signals into analog signals and vice versa, containing output ports. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>Fax machines</strong> encode and decode text or images that are sent through a telephone line. Digitalized what we want to send and the recipient device converts the data into a printable document or a file to be saved in a device. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>MFP (Multifunction Peripheral Devices)</strong> copy, print, scan, and send faxes. They also print in black and white or in color. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>Storage devices</strong> store information permanently. When the device is turned off, the information deletes itself unless it's filed in a secondary memory like a hard disk, CD, USB, etc. These are considered hardware components that read and write data, information, and instructions that will be called information elements. </div><div><br></div><div>Magnetic, optical and solid state storage devices:</div><ul><li><strong>Magnetic devices</strong> store information by magnetizing microscopic particles in the surface of the disk and tape. </li><li><strong>Optical devices</strong> read elements through a laser light using a powerful microscope. </li><li><strong>Solid state devices</strong> store information through a Fowler-Nordheim tunneling process that closes or opens gates that give access to the cell panel that stores the data. </li></ul><div>The System Unit is the most important component of a computers, it contains the microprocessor (the brain of the computer equipment) the main memories, ports, slots, and expansion cards.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Chapter 1.2 - Information input, process, and output </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A digital format which means in a sequence of 1 and 0, have an assigned color which can be a code composed of a group of 8. They are collected at periodic intervals to be stored as numeric data form 8.&nbsp;</div><div>Operations such as telephone numbers, are known as characters. ASCII code stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange and it represents 128 characters with combination of requires 8 bits to represent one single character.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Unicode is a standard world character codification that is utilized to represent the alphabet of multiple languages. It uses 16 bits, that means it has the capability of having 65,000 representations.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Each stored file contains a file header that indicates the type of content; otherwise, the computer wouldn’t now what program to open.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>In order to be able to dimension these units, it is important to know that nowadays the hard disk of a computer is in general 50GB, and that the data transmission of Internet is 11 Mb.&nbsp;<br><br>Information processing is much more than just a computer, this involves users, software, hardwares, procedures and data. When these mix up they make up the needs of helping people to get good and effective information in order to be communicated.</div><div><br></div><div>Information systems acquire input, output, processing and storage functions. These helps the users to be organized.</div><div><br></div><div>Humans, computers, and information systems execute the same functions of entry, process, output, and storage.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Information System:</strong> Goes from input and output to the process, also in and out of the storing.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Computer</strong>: Goes from input and output devices to microprocessors to in and out of the memory.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Human beings</strong> go from five senses and expressions to brain in and out to the memory.</div><div><br></div><div>Computers get data from different input services, us humans get information from our senses, after the microprocessor or the brain in our case analyzes and presents them through talking(mostly) for humans and output devices for computers, from this process the information or data are kept in the memory and of it´s relevant it will be saved in the long term memory or a hard drive.</div><div><br></div><div>The concepts of information and data are different things, people mostly use them as synonyms, although in the computing jargon data is used by the computers and information by people.</div><div><br></div><div>The way in which people dialog is analog because go the contestant use of signals that differ in strength, speed, volume, tone and quality. Although electric devices can only get two physical states, on (with a value of 1) and off (with a value of 0).&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
