The day that Guatemala earned its independence was on September 15th, 1821. The largest historical group that lived in Guatemala were the Mayans. The Mayans left behind many things which are now historical sites today, like temples and such. The amount of people who speak the Mayan language is dwindling today.

The currency that people in Guatemala use is called Quetzals. That is named after their national bird, the Quetzal. It is thought that the ancient Mayans used the Quetzals feathers as their currency.

Guatemala is exposed to the foreign influences of many different cultures so there is a lot of diversity there. The Great Kite festival, as the name says is a celebration that includes kites. Dia le da Independencia. That is Guatemala's independence day.

There are many beautiful historical sights here. For one, the ancient Mayan temples that were so well built, there are some still standing today. Some aren't stable enough to walk on, but they are beautiful sights to see nonetheless.

There is so much beautiful music. There are many styles, all significant in their own way, usually pieces are inspired by ceremonial music from ancient Mayans. Their music consists of woodwinds and percussion and bands play during special holidays like the week of Easter.

The food in Guatemala has its own style. The food there consists of beans, rice, tortillas, chili, corn, and so on. Most cuisine there is based off of the Mayan culture, as many other things are too. There are many more flavorful dishes because of the interesting choice of spices in many restaurants and homes.
