It can help to suggest points of thought or ideas that you personally haven’t come up with. AI can be helpful in a certain way but not in a way that most people think.

AI doesn’t have or truly understand emotion. So much power in writing comes from human emotions and how we use those to convey passion.

AI has been shown to lower the user's intelligence, and I've seen this happen myself where people who use AI to write for them forget how to write themselves. In my opinion, it's better to have a less than ideal paper than to not be able to write at all.

Learning to write allows the skill to not always rely on AI. Although AI can definitely be used as a tool, it might not always be available or accessible in the future.

I honestly like to take both sides of this argument. While I think using ai is damaging to people learning to write, I also think it’s beneficial to a lot of people in the sense that we can use it as a guide and help to spark certain ideas.

I think if we can use AI for everyday use already we should be able to learn how to get the best results from it and use it to our advantage. You can still change it and make it your own.

It is important because AI is a separate entity owned by corporations taking who knows what data from your AI prompts, meaning that they could very much censor what the AI will give you, this is a huge problem to not know how to write something without using a corporate machine to write it for you.

Also its unethical to use AI and to pass it off as your own because it learns from other writings from other authors, so there is a huge copyright/piracy issue there.

Although AI is convenient it doesn't help us to grow as individuals. When we write we can learn more by expressing our thoughts and ideas. AI takes away our creativity and individuality.

Writing is a form of expression and art. It is something that has existed for generations and generations, and I believe that when we begin to use AI, we start to lose that art
Using AI is just an easy out and as we begin to develop that habit in one aspect of our lives, we begin to apply that in other aspects as well. We essentially tank our chances of success in life

AI doesn’t know everything even though a lot of people assume that it does. I think it’s important to be able to analyze texts and use your own brain and ideas to express a message.

For me especially writing my own papers and reflections, helps me to eloquently express and process my thoughts and relay it to another person. Especially beneficial in the auto mechanic field i am studying for with regards to assuaging customer concerns and relaying what I did and why to help customers understand the price I charge and it's fairness.

AI isn't better than our normal writing. I worked for a science summer camp, and this year they wrote the majority of curriculum using AI. It was confusing and didn't translate well to real life. The quality of those camps majorly went down compared to the years prior when they had actual people writing it.

The ability to comprehend and communicate information effectively is an important skill to have, and developing these skills will only be beneficial to us. Maybe AI can assist someone in developing these skills, but to completely outsource them to ChatGPT or something similar is just setting yourself up for failure down the line.

AI is not a suitable replacement for actually writing because AI and LLMs don't actually know anything. They're just using word association based on training data, and its only going to get worse as it collects more data train on, running out of reliable data and going toward unreliable data. Such as when google's AI Gemini once told a user to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. You also don't learn how to write when writing with AI, meaning that if an AI doesn't know about a subject, or is wrong about a subject (which is often the case) you will struggle to write about it.

AI writes what you want to hear. Not everything it answers with is factual, as it will often make things up as opposed to gathering correct information. Papers written using AI will usually have plenty of mistakes because of this.
