I believe that in the context of a music video in which the point of the video is further expressed via the arbitrary waste of materials(e.g. the smashed TV and piano), as this further strengthens the message expressed by the band. However, without this context it would seem to me that the use of resources would be a bit excessive to be justified with the purpose of having fun(usually the reason for creating a Rube Goldberg machine).

I believe the Rude Goldberg results in a lot of wasted resources because the Rude Goldberg doesn't serve any purpose other than amusement and isn't a useful creation. If the Rude Goldberg could be used numerous times, the resources used wouldn't be as wasted. However, in the video, the Rude Goldberg could only be used once (until they had to replace all the broken items) and used a couple of resources that could've been used for more meaningful and useful purposes (TV, piano, umbrellas, etc), but instead, was used for an insufficient, expensive, and time-effort-consuming activity.

If a rube Goldberg machine only uses materials they already owned, and don't break or damage them, then they don't waste resources.

Also, it depends on what they do with the materials after they finish with the machine, if they keep or recycle them then they aren't wasteful, but if they throw away a bunch of stuff afterwards, that it is wasteful.

It depends on how a material is used, for example someone could use a tv for a rube goldberg machine but not break it in the process, but other rube goldberg machines could involve it breaking in the process and that could be considered wasting resources, however if that damage can lead to something more positive like a message, that could be considered something else, since it was not entirely a "waste" of a material. Of course, the benefit should outweigh the negatives, which is mostly not the case, since rube goldberg machines take a lot of tries and if you use something as expensive as a tv and you break it multiple times its not going to outweigh the benefits

In this case, the criteria would be whether or not the "fun" aspect outweighs the "wasteful" aspect. If it does, the materials would be considered fully utilized and thus not wasted. The items like paint also cannot be reused and could've been used for more meaningful projects. Additionally, if the Rude Goldberg served a purpose other than being entertainment for a 10-minute video, the creation would have more meaning and become less wasteful. The Rude Goldberg also takes a lot of time, finance, and effort to create each time. Including all the possible failed attempts, it might've taken an hour to finally succeed. The Rude Goldberg in short, should be faster to create, cheaper, and faster in duration to be even slightly considered useful and not wasteful.

A Rube Goldberg machine is a machine designed to accomplish a task in the most roundabout and expressive way possible. Most of the time the tasks are comically small inconveniences, or sometimes lead to a reveal. This adds to the entertainment over usage path that Rube Goldberg machines tend to follow. They are also a channel for everyone to express themselves, without feeling the need to make anything efficient or clean. Rube Goldberg machines usually use simple machines to operate each part, which makes it accessible to students and adults alike. This model of machines are invented by and named after Rube Goldberg, a comic artist and engineer who drew published his comics with Rube Goldberg machines.

Rude Goldberg was a cartoonist who would often draw small comics and series for the newspaper. Using his previous knowledge and expertise in engineering, Goldberg's most memorable series depicts a professor creating elaborate and complex contraptions to accomplish simple tasks. This series resulted in numerous machines and inventions to be termed "Rude Goldberg machines" as they followed the concept of being elaborate and inconvenient, made with the purpose of completing basic tasks. Rude Goldberg machines themselves are made from easily accessible items and objects (umbrellas, ping-pong balls, paint) but put together, create a long and compound contraption that is arguably awkward and nonsensical.

But not really, because his parents told him to be an engineer. Once he started to do engineering. He decided to go to a university so that he could learn more stuffs about engineering. When he learned enough from the university he's been to. He decided to go move to New York when it was 1907. Rube Goldberg started to have two sons, and Rube Goldberg decided to change there son's name into George W. George, and the other son was named Thomas George. They wanted to change there names, because Rube Goldberg was very worried that they might be targeted or assassinated from someone. He liked line drawing in childhood but was not allowed by his father, which is the background he likes to create cartoons. Because of he studied engineering in college from 1904 and designed San Francisco's sewer system for about 6 month, he enjoyed creating complex machines to solve simple problems. This is Goldberg machine. It consists of simple mechanical components that demonstrate mechanical movement in a chain reaction. Most of it is a process in which the gravitational potential energy of an object is converted into kinetic energy, and inertia participates in and maintains the state of motion of the object.

Known by other cartoonists as one of the best of his time, Rube Goldberg was a cartoonist who was known for his machines - excessively complicated systems that would accomplish minuscule tasks(e.g. lighting a cigarette).
Using the pen from a young age, Rube Goldberg always seemed to be drawn to drawing. Much to his dismay, however, his father saw no future in Rube's artwork, and made him attend university to study to be an engineer. After university, Rube would work a job that would pay well, yet he still wanted to return to his passion - art. Thus, he quit his job and started working for the Chronicle, where he drew cartoons for the newspaper. Seeing more opportunity, Rube would eventually leave for New York, where the N.Y. Times would hire him as a cartoonist. There, he created his famous "Crazy Invention" series, where he would utilize his engineering background to think of ridiculous machines that performed mundane tasks.
Eventually, Rube Goldberg would become a legend among cartoonists, with an award given to cartoonists called the Reuben Award being named after him. Even today his cartoon machines inspire various people around the world to recreate his machines and create their own.
