Thus, he quit his job and started working for the Chronicle, where he drew cartoons for the newspaper. Seeing more opportunity, Rube would eventually leave for New York, where the N.Y. Times would hire him as a cartoonist. There, he created his famous "Crazy Invention" series, where he would utilize his engineering background to think of ridiculous machines that performed mundane tasks.
Eventually, Rube Goldberg would become a legend among cartoonists, with an award given to cartoonists called the Reuben Award being named after him.
