My name is Nur Liyana, can call me yana. 29 years of age.Is from skudai JB but currently residing in Kajang. Married for 3 years with no children yet 

Graduated with a MBBS from UiTM in 2014. Completed my 2 years housemanship in Hospital Sultan Ismail. Currently a servicing medical officer in Anaesthesia Department Hospital Serdang since tha past 2 years. I'm actively involve with Pain Free Programme works and Organ Donation Campaign and is with the hospital committee for both teams. 

Developed interest in medical ethics and law during undergrad years with interest in consent and end of life care. Presented a poster once on advance medical directives . Just passed the bridging course and entering the 1st sem masters of law HCML. Hoping that the knowledge gained would be of use in the near future. Will continue to persue master of aneasthesia after completion of this programme and hopefully to join the academic fraternity later. 

Hello Miss Ambi and fellow friends. I am Dr Siti Zufina. I have been in service for the past 15 years and previously worked in a hospital and klinik kesihatan, before being posted to my current place of work. 

At present, I am working at Cawangan Kawalan Amalan Perubatan Swasta (CKAPS) or Private Medical Control Section, Medical Practice Division in Putrajaya. The Ministry of Health controls and regulates the private healthcare facilities and services in Malaysia, through Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 and its Regulations, which are enforced by CKAPS and its counterparts at the states, UKAPS. We are also expected, to enforce Pathology Lab Act 2007 and Private Aged Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 2018, soon. 

In addition to that, my work also involves giving input in the drafting of new laws or amendment of existing laws, e.g.
 drafting of Pathology Laboratory Regulations (now in final stage at AGC), Private Aged Healthcare Facilities and Services Regulations and its Guidelines, Organ, Tissue and Transplantation Bill, Assisted Reproductive Technology Bill and amendment of Human Tissue Act 1974. At the same time, there are various government policies which impacted the healthcare industry in Malaysia directly or indirectly, for example autonomous liberalisation, foreign equities, online healthcare services and medical tourism. 

Hence, I feel that there is a need for me to learn more about the law, in particular healthcare regulations and medical laws, to ensure that the ultimate goal of patient safety and quality of care is upheld while balancing the interests of the stakeholders. 

I stay in Cyberjaya with my husband and two children. During free time, I love to bake cookies and watch movies. It has been great meeting everybody and I look forward to learning together :)

I am Nalini M Nanu, Administrative Medical Officer in the Dermatology Department at Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru. I graduated with an M.B.B.S degree from Manipal Academy Of Higher Education in 1996 and joined government service in 1997. I have loyally served the Ministry Of Health for the past 23 years and have 6 years to go. I believe be sincere in whatever you do and do it with no reservation for the most important thing in life is, your conscience should always be clear. The rewards may or may not come but the satisfaction it gives knows no bounds. I dedicate one day a week to seeing patients and the rest of the week I am a jack of all trades as I do all administrative work of the department under my head of Departments purview as well as department researches. I am also involved in the Hospital quality related committees and in the Post Graduate Medical Society as well. In keeping with MMC’s requirement the need for indemnity insurance brought me to attend courses on Medicolegal aspects requiring the indemnity coverage and it actually sparked an interest in the field. Circumstances and responsibilities kept me from pursing my further studies in my youthful years. Now that I have time on my hands, I decided to take up this challenge to achieve my dream of acquiring a Master’s for my own satisfaction so here I am with all of you to learn and move forward. Hope to meet, learn, cooperate and build lasting friendships in this new journey forth.  

Hello Dr. Ambi and fellow classmates. I am Tan Wei Nie, can call me Claire.  Currently, I am working as a legal advisor and heading my legal department, in a manufacturing company in Penang.  I have graduated from a university in Wales, United Kingdom.  I have multiple years of experience in legal or legal coaching and/or teaching field.   Along the way, I have picked up new skills and upgraded myself whether in experience or in knowledge. My role is no longer limited to managing legal risk associated with the business.  I am required to partner with the business, understand its issues and produce viable and tangible solutions.   

With the pandemic sweeping throughout the world, I feel for the country and its people.  I have always wanted to make a difference to the lives of others in need.  Medical ethics has always been an interesting subject for me during my undergraduate years.  In my opinion, the novel coronavirus (Covid 19) pandemic is raising thorny medical ethics dilemmas in many countries worldwide. But since this is a short write up about myself, I won't elaborate further on this.  Thus,  this Healthcare and Medical Law module will further upgrade and stretch myself in different aspects, whether physically, mentally or emotionally.  

           

Talking about my hobbies, I like reading, because it is thought-provoking. Also, I want to be knowledgeable. However, if I have time, I usually do outdoor or sport activities.

I’m Tan Li Hwa from Penang. Working in one of the private hospital, heading the Quality division which involve in Quality, Licensing, Medico Legal, Accreditation, Research, Infection Control and EHS.  I’m MSQH and ISO auditor. I graduated from Cyberjaya University College of medical Sciences in 2014 and previously served as a Medical Officer in Hospital Sultan Ismail’s Emergency department before I was transferred to work in the Correctional Medicine Field at Kluang’s Prison. I am incharge of a Clinic in the Women Prison. I am currently responsible for the health and well being of 345 inmates and three children under my belt. Working in Prison teaches me a lot of new experiences which I doubt I can get the same experience elsewhere. Everyday is like an adventure because I cannot predict what I will see, hear or come to know which is wonderful and scary at the same time.

I have not achieved anything remarkable throughout my 31 years of life other than scored good grades for my PMR and SPM. This is why I enrolled in the Health Care and Medical Law Masters programme. I wish to bring changes into the healthcare system in Prisons and perhaps to spread awareness to my fellow colleague in the Correctional Medicine field of the fact that being a Prison Doctor does not limited to being a common General Practitioner and abide by the confusing rule but understanding the duty and the law related to the rule itself before blindly following or refusing it. 

In conclusion, I am an ordinary doctor who wishes to do good for humanity regardless of race, creed or status and to fulfil the duty required of me by God and the law. Thank you.

Medical school and Law school. Most people assume that these 2 demanding courses of study are different and largely unrelated paths. However, the truth is that these fields are increasingly interlinked. In fact, medical students who pursue law are uniquely positioned to navigate the challenges of todays complex healthcare landscape. In order to truly understand the “big picture” of contemporary medicine, a basic understanding of health policy is also required. From issues pertaining to everything from intellectual property to medical malpractice issues, legal factors can make or break a patient’s healthcare experience. And while we often think of law as impeding medicine, it can also be used to improve it -- with access to the right information, that is. 

While medicine can solve many problems, it cannot on its own behave ethically. And while the Hippocratic Oath holds physicians to a specific standard of ethical behaviour, the underlying issues are far from black and white. Navigating these questions of ethics can be vexing to physicians who lack the tools to manage ethical dilemmas pertaining to issues such as confidentiality, communication and cultural relativism. Not only that, but advancements in science, technology and medical research trigger new issues and ethical considerations every day. While these topics are complex, an understanding of the law and ethics can inform the decision-making process for today’s physicians.

Based on those principles and guidance which I picked up during my Masters in Public Health, have actually opened my eyes to further deeply understand medical law and that’s when I decided to join into this Masters of Medical law program to further learn those principles and to apply them when I practice as a Public Health Physician in the near future.
