         <description><![CDATA[<div>I really like that the students were in charge of their learning during this activity. I started with a note taking guide which made going over notes easier and more engaging because the students were able to take notes at their pace and practice skills. Secondly, I gave them an interactive activity to keep them engaged with the Level-Up. I like that you can touch each of the learning lenses through this activity. The score sheet with reflection was great for me to see how I can help them best. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>After completing the Nearpod lesson on satire, students chose a leveled activity to demonstrate mastery of the concept. The following levels were given as choices:<br><strong><mark>Mild </mark></strong><mark>- Find your own examples of political cartoons from newspapers, websites, etc. Insert the image into a slideshow. Then, write an explanation of the satire – how and why it is being used by the artist?<br></mark><strong>Hot -&nbsp;</strong>Create your own satirical cartoons. You can base them on a current or historical political issue or a text we've read already (<em>Odyssey, To Kill a Mockingbird, Romeo &amp; Juliet</em>). This should be completed on plain paper. On the back, explain your satire.<br><strong><mark>Fire - </mark></strong><mark>&nbsp;Write a short satirical editorial. You must pick a topic on which you have a strong opinion, then using reversal, humor, exaggeration, and/or incongruity, you have to write a piece on it. Be sure to proofread your final copy.</mark> (Students were given additional information about writing editorials.)</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>For our upcoming literature circles, we decided to create a novel level up that can be adapted for any novel. This level up will be implemented at the end of literature circles. Several formative grades can be taken from each assignment. Each level assesses a different skill, but the level of difficulty varies depending on students' strengths. We were sure to include multiple ways for students to express their learning. There are also several opportunities for differentiation at each level, which is amazing!</div>]]></description>

         <title>Clue - Leveling Up Activity</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I made this leveling up activity with the theme of one of my favorite board games Clue. Students went from activity to activity gathering clues to find out who the criminal was.&nbsp;<br>It was so fun to watch them do this listening to stormy music, navigating the template like it was actually a board game. Students easily went with the theme and were excited to write down clues. Some of the activities were crosswords and puzzles which were difficult and kept some students in one place for awhile until they got help. In retrospect I would add paper copies to help some struggling students move faster through the puzzle.&nbsp;<br>At the end only two students from each class were able to finish with the correct answer. I will definitely do this again next year but I would love to "keep the wonder" by making my room look like the clue board as well and maybe adding real game pieces to students desks to mark where they are in the activity. </div>]]></description>

         <title>6th Grade Review Level Up</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Students worked through 5 different activities that were focused on the topics we had worked on and that would benefit them as they prepare for GMAS.  The first was a weekly quiz that was going in their gradebook, and as that was needed, that's why it took the first position.  The rest reviewed topics.  I used google forms for 4/5 of the activities and then I managed watching their scores and letting them know if they needed to retake it before they moved on.  Students appreciated the opportunity to immediately redo the assignments and most of them either finished or got through four of the activities.  </div>]]></description>
