All about the AR 15 Rifles by

AR 15 Rifle is a selective fire, air-cooled, magazine-fed rifle, gas operated, with a rotating bolt and a straight-line recoil design. It was designed to be used as a lightweight assault rifle and a small velocity caliber cartridge to allow soldiers to carry more ammunition. This rifle is based on AR 10 rifle design and this redesigned rifle was taken by the United States as the commonly known M 16 rifle. The military started its production in 1964 and is one among the AR 15 rifle variant. The variants include assault rifle, short barrel rifle, semi-automatic pistol, modern sporting rifle, carbine and designated marksman rifle. The weight of the guns ranges from 2.27 kg to 3.9kg. The effective firing range of this pistol is up to 600 yards or550 meters.

The acronym AR 15 signifies ‘Armalite rifle 15’ and the trademark is registered to colt and is required to be used only to their products. Colt uses the AR 15 for semi-automatic civilian rifles. Other manufacturers create clones of the colt’s AR 15 but the variants are manufactured under other separate designation.

The rifle was designed by Eugene Stoner, Jim Sullivan and Bob Fremont in 1957.Without any doubt the gun was designed for military after the world war 2. Colt manufactured 300 AR-15 rifles in 1994 and sold it to military services around the world. Initial sales of this rifle was not much due to its fixed sights and carry on handles which made mounting difficult and uncomfortable to use. Very few companies were allowed to manufacture the rifles and the companies include Armalite, Colt, Rock River Arms, Stag Arms, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Remington Arms, Olympic arm, spikes tactical and Daniel Defence. In 2016 there was a controversy related to the AR 15 rifle patterns as it was used for mass shootings, this led to a debate of gun control and gun rights in the United States. In Mexico the AR- 15 is known as the ‘weapon of choice’ for drug traffickers and terrorist organisations.

Currently the civilian ownership, manufacture and sale is prohibited according to the Firearm owner’s protection act and no new automatic guns have been produced since then for the civilian market.

The AR 15 is a continuous evolving gun with modular systems. The weapon has been enhanced by Aero precision to the new M4E1 and M5E1 platforms. The upper receivers of the gun are designed according to the needs of the customers, where the rail mounting and the barrel surface provide a stiff support than the standard receiver. The 308 upper series is a one-piece design to combine the rail mounting surface with the upper receiver. This helps in making it a stronger system and reduces the weight of the gun to allow effective cooling. The 308 upper cannot accept lowers of standards less than 5.56mmbut there are many complete assemblies for any standard lower assembly.

The 308 upper is customizable and comes with a nitride bolt carrier group and charging handle.
