So much data was interpreted incorrectly due to lack of education/knowledge and poor presentation

One thing that became clear from the pandemic is the level of trust citizens have in their governments. In Vietnam, where I'm from, citizens immediately agreed to quarantine and wear masks as well as follow any government mandates necessary to stop the spread. The same can be seen in many other Eastern nations. In the West, there seems to be less trust in the government and more reluctance to follow their guidance. Could this be linked to trust in government or is it because the West favors individualism and "freedom" whereas the East favors collectivist welfare and community? Could it be both?

A fascinating phenomenon I observed during the pandemic was societal division. In Germany, for instance, an entire party formed out of the anti-mask/anti-vaccination movement. This party called "Die Basis" was even up for election last week. The people supportive of this party and the movement as a whole often displayed violent and vulgar behavior during protests, which is why I was glad the party did not pass the 5% mark in order to enter the Bundestag.

Even though the pandemic caused us to go into the biggest recession we have ever seen in terms of magnitude, it was also one of the quickest to bounce back. Additionally, in the United States, there was a stark difference in the response from Fed in 2008 vs 2020. Science has predicted that there will be more frequent pandemics due to climate change, and I'm curious how governments will respond over time (will there be more systems implemented, will we continue to forget about our past mistakes) and how interest rates will respond

Also how different conclusions and theories were drawn to completely disregard the idea of another pandemic coming (countries around the world were not ready to take precautions due to the fact that they did not want to believe in a pandemic because they did not know how to cope economically, healthcare wise, etc).

I’m unsure if this is a phenomenon, but it was quite interesting to observe government policy throughout the pandemic and how seemingly contradictory some of it seemed. I would have presumed that the governments priority would be the people and handling the pandemic in a way to would mitigate the loss of lives. However, the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme in the midst of the country’s turmoil illustrated how out of touch the government appeared from the population and its health.

But due to the heavy regulations with bad outcomes, there are people who are starting to lose trust in the government.

Similarly in other countries where their governments shortcomings have lead to the people believing in their incompetency. I think this pandemic will make people rethink about their own countries politics and their governments.
