Why is connected learning important?

School/education is one of the coolest gifts that this world has to offer. Unfortunately, it often gets a bad reputation with kids because the fun gets taken out of it. Connected learning works to frame learning alongside the interests and hobbies of students so that they can better connect to the material and take personal responsibility for wanting to learn more.

Connections. What questions surfaced from the reading? What connections did you make to your teaching or learning experiences? How does this week’s readings challenge you?

One question that came up for me while reading was: How do educators successfully navigate through the expectations of standards while still making their classes relatable/interesting? One thing that really challenged my thinking in this week's reading was the quote that "classrooms and schools today look remarkably like classrooms and schools of the past". With all of the progress that our society has made, it is disappointing to hear that classrooms haven't really progressed much with the times, especially when it comes to connected learning.

Your Process. What did you learn from the process of creating your multimodal response? What got in the way?

I learned a lot while creating this padlet. Not only did I learn about the intricacies of connected learning, but I also learned how to successfully navigate a padlet. It is going to be an awesome tool to use in my future classroom! I wasn't entirely sure how to edit the format at first but with a little bit of googling and using class materials, I found out how to do it effectively. One thing that I wish was a little bit different is the way that the notes are structured. I wish that I could figure out how to easily access things like bullet points, lists, etc.
