Launched way back in 1945, La Tomatina is a big tomato fight. It’s also easily the messiest, coming off like the world’s biggest food fight.

La Tomatina Festival started the last Wednesday of August in 1945 when some young people spent the time in the town square to attend the Giants and Big-Heads figures parade. The young boys decided to take part in a parade with musicians, Giants and Big-Heads figures. The energy of jovialities caused one participant's Big-head to fall off. The participant flew into a fit of rage, began hitting everything in his path. There was a market stall of vegetables that fell victim to the fury of the crowd. People started to pelt each other with tomatoes until the local forces ended the fruit battle.
La Tomatina was banned in the early 50s, however this did not stop the participants who were arrested.

The Obon Festival or the Festival of Lanterns lasts from 13 august to 15 august, but in every year is different. Always this festival lasts around 3 days and it has been celebrated in Japan for more than 500 years.

This festival honors and commemorates deceased ancestors. Are some stories saying that their spirits return at this time to visit their relatives.

It is named the Festival of Lanterns because of the paper lanterns that are said tu guide the spirits to their families. For this reason some lanterns are placed in homes. During this time people returned to their ancestors’ homes and have a family reunion. Many families spend time with each other as well as clean their ancestors graves and make food offerings at altars. Others use this time to see their old friends. People also use a traditional dance named bon Odori. During this festival many people can be seen wearing yukatas that is a traditional japanese clothing.

In Republic of Moldova is not a very known festival. I just love watching videos about this festival. We can’t celebrate it because we are in a country with different traditions. My family also like this festival because is a popular and interesting one. I hope one day I will go in Japan and see this wonderful festival along with my family.

This festival is dedicated to dead people as the mexican festival La dia de los Muertos. This is the biggest festival in Japan because of the interesting traditions. This honors the ancestors and makes families meeting in a big group. I will be very happy if I could watch this festival!

Easter holiday is very religious holiday and many churches have outdoor services on this day. It is usually celebrated on March or late April.
At Easter it is customary for people to buy new clothes to wear on Easter Sunday.
What do people really celebrate on this day is the Resurrction of Jesus Christ. As we know he was crucified on Friday, but to people is surprise he resurrected on Sunday morning. It was a real wonder! So, from then on, people have celebrated this great event.
On Easter morning people go to church for the service and for blessing the traditional food they have cooked After church they come home and have a holiday table all together. The holiday table is set with traditional food: coloured eggs, Easter Cake, roast lamb, meat in jelly, cabbage rolls, fruit and vegetable and many other tasty things. The first thing people do is craking eggs; each person takes an egg and tries to break the others member's egg, then they drink a toast of joy to Jesus Christ's Resurrection.
On this day people congratulate each other on this great and special Holiday.
Easter Eve is a busy day forall the members of my family. I like the atmosphere when mother and grandmother begin to cook Easter Cross Buns, the so called ''Pasca'', cozonac, biscuits, roast meat, sausages and of course they paint eggs.
The first thing children's do in the morning is to wash their faces with a red-painted egg in order to be strong and healthy, with a white egg to be lucky and happy, with a coin in order to be wealthy. I could say that Easter in Moldova is a festival of domestic harmony and felicity. The festfire nature of Easter is presented by willow branches yellow and fluffy chickens and bright coloured Easter eggs, daffodils and tulips.
A traditional salutation at Easter in Moldova is ''Christ is Risin!'' and the reply to it is ''Indeed is Risen''.

New Year is the time or day at which a new calendar year begins and the calendar's year count increments by one. Many cultures celebrate the event in some manner.

The Gregorian calendar, the most widely used calendar system today, New Year occurs on January 1 (New Year's Day). This was also the first day of the year in the original Julian calendar and the Roman calendar (after 153 BC).

Other peoples celebrate the New Year according to their own calendar. Some use the lunar calendar or the lunisolar calendar. Good examples would be the Chinese New Year, the Islamic New Year and the Jewish New Year. In the Middle Ages in Western Europe, while the Julian calendar was still in use, authorities moved New Year's Day, depending upon locale, to one of several other days, including March 1, March 25, Easter, September 1, and December 25. From there, many national civil calendars in the Western World and beyond have changed to using one fixed date for New Year's Day, January 1— most doing so when they adopted the Universal Calender. The last country to convert on January 1 was Thailand (1941). New Year's Eve is celebrated on December 31. Usually people give parties, people wish them a Happy New Year.

In my culture on the eve boys go with ,„Uratul” which is a tradition respected in my family. Our neighbors come and then we spend the night together. In my family, the door is wide open for New Year's guests. Usually in my country before midnight the president gives a speech. Different television channels create shows or concerts that we watch. Festivities are organized in the square of large national assemblies.

The new year is changing, this year we could not have the door open for everyone and we contacted our relatives online. We had fun watching movies and laughing anyway. I hope that next year our relatives will join us and the rest of the world will return to normal.
More about this source textSource text required for additional translation information
Send feedback
Side panels

International Women’s day is celebrated each year on March 8. This day is celebrated to acknowledge the economic, political, social and cultural achievements of women from all walks of life. The day is celebrated globally, highlighting the struggles and achievements of women.

On this day, women gained the right to vote after years of marching and initiating speeches about their rights. An important note is that, due to racism, women from marginalized groups were only allowed to vote years later. Violence against WOC was normalized in society. Women of color had to combat against both sexism and racism. Some important personalities that changed movements were:

-Ida B Wells-Barnett was a prominent journalist, activist, and researcher, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In her lifetime, she battled sexism, racism, and violence. As a skilled writer, Wells-Barnett also used her skills as a journalist to shed light on the conditions of African Americans throughout the South.

-Marie Louise Bottineau Baldwin was a Native American woman who protected the rights of her community and in 1911 become a key of spokesperson for Native American women. She was a strong advocate for women’s suffrage. She participated in the 1913 suffrage parade and in 1914 was among other key suffragists who met with President Wilson to encourage him to support women’s right to vote.

-Mabel Ping-Hua Lee, born in 1896 in Guangzhou, China, Lee moved to the US at the age of 4 and became a key part of the suffragette movement where she mobilized the Chinese-American community to support women’s right to vote despite the Chinese Exclusion Act, which barred any voting rights. It is still unknown whether Lee ever was able to cast her ballot.

-Jovita Idár was a Mexican-American journalist, activist, and suffragist. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since the year 1810. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations that are modeled after the original Munich event.

During the event, large quantities of Oktoberfest Beer are consumed. Visitors also enjoy numerous attractions, such as amusement rides, sidestalls, and games. There is also a wide variety of traditional foods available.

The Munich Oktoberfest originally took place in the 16-day period leading up to the first Sunday in October. In 1994, this longstanding schedule was modified in response to German reunification. As such, if the first Sunday in October falls on the 1st or the 2nd, then the festival would run until 3 October . Thus, the festival now runs for 17 days when the first Sunday is 2 October and 18 days when it is 1 October. In 2010, the festival lasted until the first Monday in October (4 October), to mark the event's bicentennial.

Easter is a religious Christian festival, which commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. This holiday starts on a different date each year, but it’s always celebrated on a Sunday.

The legend says that on Good Friday, Jesus Christ was executed by crucifixion and his body was buried in a cave. But on Sunday, Jesus resurrected and was seen for days afterwards by many people. Christians named that day Easter Sunday, this holiday becoming one of the most popular.

Easter is a time when families gather and celebrate with special meals. They paint eggs in many different colors and cook lambs to share them with their relatives. Many people bake Easter cakes called ,,cozonac” and „pască”. This holiday is also about cleaning and having a fresh start, so people usually clean their houses. An important tradition is going to the curch when it’s night and blessing Easter food, for then to eat in the morning.

Me and my mom prepare for Easter on Saturday. We paint eggs and cook lamb, but the most important part is when we bake Easter cookies. This is a family tradition and I love it. We also go and bless Easter food at the church. On Sunday, we’re going to relatives that live out of the city. On the next day we go to grandma and celebrate with my cousins.

Nowadays, this festival isn’t celebrated like it was in the past, because people stop following the traditions our grandparents did. But Easter still remains an important holiday in our lives.

I don't celebrate this festival because I am not living in China and etc, but monthly I am visiting the grave of my granduncle, praying and cleaning his grave with my grandmother, so I consider it the same thing, at this festival you can send postcards or face to face your condolences to a person from whom you hold a special place in your heart.
