week 10 effective meeting strategies.

This includes preparation of a good and workable schedule that defines the expected objectives of the meeting, the topics of discussion and what the participants are expected to achieve. These might include; assessing the working progress of some projects, evaluating challenges encountered and ways of handling them, re-strategising and identifying top priorities as well as encouraging team members to work together. These may include presenting or updating the current status of a project, discussing where there are potential or current delays, informing others about deadlines that ae still to come, and soliciting views from the rest of the team. Such outcomes are expected because at the end of the meeting, everyone should be informed and agreed on the matter in question or any existing problem, in addition to leaving the meeting with individual tasks assigned to him or her.

One of the first implemented solutions for effective meetings is setting objectives. Finally, the chairman should declare the objectives of the meeting at the beginning, that is the goals for the meeting, and what should be expected at the end of it. This helps everyone stays focused and that time was not wasted. Another important strategy is roles assignment. For instance having a chair first can make sure the meeting does not move beyond the required time and having a secretary is helpful since they capture the decisions made and things to be done. It also ensures that all the participants remain majors and clear for those who may have to work with the notes at some time in the future.

Furthermore, guaranteeing that the actions to be taken after completing the solution is important for facilitating the generation of productivity rates. When the meeting is done, the next step is to review what was discussed, agreed on, and how the tasks should be accomplished, and who should accomplish what by when. This can be achieved by taking meeting minutes where all the meeting’s deliberation are recorded and given to all participants as soon as possible. The next meeting should therefore comprise of the following; The review of the activity to ascertain accomplishment of set tasks. These measure of clear goals, roles, and follow up actions guarantee that the meeting stays purposeful and effective towards creating actionable results, controlling progress, and request in a team.

Introduction

Leadership is one of the leading core competencies that determine the performance of any group of people or organization. A good team leader, therefore, has to go a step further than merely increasing performance; he/she has to inspire people in the team and make them want to work harder. Leadership occupies a crucial role in managing people’s work with a purpose of achieving a shared vision, dealing with the disputes, and promoting cooperation. In this article the author reveals the key concepts of team management: communication, empowerment, orientation to change. (Bass, 1994)

1. Clear Communication

It is the heart of leadership because it is through communication that leaders can plan, organize, lead, coordinate, monitor, and control. Transparency when delivering information initiatives within an organization builds trust and cooperation within the staff. Using Goleman’s paradigm, communication is the professed realm of emotionally intelligent leaders, as it relates to the regulation of self-emotions and interpersonal relationships. A good leader of a team ought to make sure the team is well informed of what the aim of the team is and what the position of each team member is and how that position fits within the strategy of the firms. Schedules for short meetings also enable the management to listen and solve all the concerns the employees may be having or just to make the employees feel important by talking to them occasionally. (Goleman, 2000)

2. Empowering Team Members

The other critical leadership approach is the concept of women’s empowerment. Self-organizing of work: A leader should ensure team members are given an opportunity to self manage the means by providing them tools and making them responsible for decisions required in their project. It also grows confidence while at the same time fostering creativity and innovation. Spreitzer (1995) masters that if employees are empowered then they will have increased commitment, motivation and job satisfaction. To this end, delegation of responsibility leads to team members having a sense of ownership in the leaders as a way of endorsing the outcome of the team. A powerful leader fosters, and at the same time encourages personal development within the working group, and if necessary, provides help; however, if this help is not required and such people can work independently, then the leader should not interfere. (Spreitzer, 1995)

2.Adaptability and Flexibility

Among different factors affecting the contemporary business world one of the most important it seems is the ability to be adaptable. Team leaders should have the ability to adapt with the other members with regard to the course of action pursued to overcome the existing challenges. Flexibility to adapt to new facts or challenges is one of the main signs of high commander’s quality. According to Northouse (2018), leaders within organizations should be able to adapt to change since this way the performance of the teams will not be affected in the process. It also entails understanding when a particular team is not cohering as a unit and the need to rearrange roles, or sort out personal differences.

3.Leading by Example

For positive change to be embraced in an organization, an effective team leader should set an example. Setting a standard, in terms of values, work ethos and behaviour expected from the team is effective. Professionally accountable leaders who have respect also ensure that all their team demonstrate professionalism, accountability and respect in their working places. Studies find out that level of leadership practice a significant correlation with the mentality and behaviour of the team members (Bass & Avolio, 1994). Hence, those leaders who set the standards that they wish their subordinates to meet play a crucial role in creating harmonious and effective workplace. (Northouse, 2018)

Conclusion

Successful teamwork calls for communication, working with and within the team, flexibility and modelling behaviour. Stringent leaders who perform in these areas develop the right organizational culture that fosters their employees, earns their trust and accountability. Through the use of these approaches, there will be enhanced achievement of leaders’ organizational objectives while at the same time fostering a context that enhances the development of employees, creativity as well as high performance. Thus, it is expected that organisational leadership, particularly the approaches to managing people would persist as one of the key drivers to business success in the changing business environment.

References

Bass, B.
