This text consists of mamishu and papa taking about and witnessing the change of their community before their eyes. It was a horrible time and to see their home become controlled by evil forces must have been heartbreaking. It happened so fast as well, the Jewish people have rarely any time to prepare for what they were about to face.

In this part of the text, the Soviet soldiers are asking that the Jews put back on the stripped uniforms so they can record them walking out of Auschwitz. I chose this because I thought that it was terribly unfair to ask the prisoners to put on something that they expirienced so much pain in. Although I know the soldiers didn’t mean harm, they shouldn’t have asked the Jewish people to put them back on for a video.

During this part of the book, the Jewish people have been freed and a young child is having trouble finding anyone he knows. I chose this because I thought I represented how terribly lost some Jewish people were after the war, they didn’t have a home, a family or simple necessities. This also shows how they took care of eachother .

This expert from the book represents a changing point in the story. If it weren’t for Michaels sickness, the kind people in the infirmary, or Grandma Dora’s decisions, they would not have survived. Obviously if they were dead the story wouldn’t continue, making this one of the biggest saving graces thougouht the whole book.

After reading this part of the story, my heart broke for Michael and his mom. I assumed that they would never reunite or one of them, or both, would pass. This text creates so much sadness and suspense for the story and makes readers cling to the charecters even more than before.

This text sets a dark mood and weary tone based on the fact that survival for the Jews was nearly impossible at this point of the nazi rein. Reading about it is as close as we can come to experiencing it, which would have been horrible and tragic. This part of the text well represents this.

This portion of the text shows how strong of a person Mamishu was. After hearing about the death of her son and husband, she forced herself to stay strong and pick herself out of despair. She needed to survive for her youngest son and she was determined to be there for him, showing her strength and fierceness.

This part of the story shows how each person targeted by the Nazis tried their best to help out each other and keep as many alive, although most times they had to face defeat. It shows how all of the Jews stuck together as if they were family. This shows a small portion of hope and promise in the mood of the story.

This excerpt from the book signifies the trust the Jewish people had to put into eachother in order to survive. Sadly, some promises went unkept and it cost lives. Yet, if even one life was spared, it was an accomplishment for the Jews. This text also shows a lot of emotion because Michael's dad is giving his mom a sliver of hope in a hard time. Also mamishu wants to save the whole family so it’s hard for her to except that she won’t be able to.

This text sets a dark and suspenseful mood throughtout the story. It foreshadows the more terrible crimes the Nazis complete throughout the war, especially later on. By showing this small, yet cruel act, it gives the readers an idea of the hardships the Jewish population had to face.
