About 46% of workers in Africa were between the ages of 5 and 16. These children can be toddlers or teenagers, doing the same work as adult miners. They work long hours of back-breaking work. Compared to adults, the children are more vulnerable to injuries. Because of their size, children will most likely be given the most dangerous jobs such as entering narrow mine shafts or descending into pits, being vulnerable to death from a landslide. Most deaths are caused by landslides, mine collapses, and other accidents. We buy diamond rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, etc. When we buy those items with diamonds in them, we do not realize that some of those diamonds may be blood diamonds. We do not know if the diamonds have been mined in Africa, the US, Russia, etc,  and most people do not care.
