What is happening? - Esperanza is describing and giving details to the seats and some of the interior of the yellow Cadillac that she sat inside of. She uses a simile to compare the soft seats to a couch.
Topics - The topic discussed in this is thievery and stealing. It also gives a sense of being desperate as a person in a poor place with his family to take care of would steal a yellow and noticeable Cadillac in a poor area.
Theme - The message the author is putting out to the reader is how people with their families to take care of would steel. This literary element conveys the theme because when it gives you a description of a clean, yellow Cadillac that is on a poor neighborhood, it gives you a sense that it was stolen or taken.
Cisneros uses imagery and simile of the Cadillac on Mango Street in the vignette "Louie, His Cousin, and His Other Cousin" in order to illustrate bad apples or black sheep in a family of people who all work together and don't do anything risky or dangerous.

 Esperanza is describing how Marin floored that car into a yellow blur.

 Esperanza is describing what happened after Louie's cousin tried to run from the police.He ran because it was a stolen car.

The topic talked about is theft and stealing.The author gave us hints that the character in the story stole the car and that was the reason he tried to flee.The effect is that he crashed which is not good. 

The message the author is trying to give in this vignette is to not steal because the outcome is never good.This literary element conveys to the theme because it gives us an image in our heads of what the author is describing.She compares an alligator to the car and gives us an image.
