         <description><![CDATA[<div>                     Faust<br>Prologue in heaven ch 1: <br>~god has asked the demon about how the world is going. the demon say it is going down hill. you do not give them so called sanity so they can not live better lives. god says that he complains too much. the demon says no i only want to help the people and it hurts me that they are hurt. god asked if he knew of Faust.<br>Faust is so good and faithful to god. Faust then pecks the demons interest. he is ensnared and wants to bet with god that he can entice Faust to leave god. god gives him permission, but is certain that Faust is a good man and Faust will find the right path.<br>the tragedy ch 2:<br>~ at night. Faust is sitting in his chair nervously flying through his life in his thoughts. thought he has studied so much he has not had a moment of joy. despite the knowledge, the mystery of nature can not be unlocked. his thoughts make him more desperate. the next morning he hears the church bells and choir singing. it is Easter.<br>at the gates ch 3:<br>walkers of all kind are out. Faust went for a walk. the ice has melted and winter is over. everyone is singing and dancing. but Faust talks with a farmers and spends the day with company. he is with his assistant, Wagner, and he hates the noise. he thinks that the people are driven from evil spirits, however they call pleasure and music, the cries and cheers are without meaning. but the people do see it as pleasure. the farmer is happy that Faust is in the midst of the party.  they appreciate him as a doctor, already in many ways, for they remember the plague, Faust's father was a doctor as well, and as a young doctor much life was brought back and fought with death. they all drink to his well being. Wagner is touched for Faust. Faust acts happy but deep down is unhappy. he thinks he has two souls in him living apart and fighting each other. Faust wants a magic coat to know the unknown. Wagner does not get him. now that Faust has left he is in search of this black poodle that fallows him. he finds the poodle magical. the demon is the dog. Faust lets the dog in his home. he is happy with this because now he has something to do when feeding and housing the dog. but soon he finds it annoying and sends the dog out. the demon appears for the second time. But this time in the form of a student. out of the fog a knightly scholar crawls behind behind the stove.  the demon succeeds in the first conversation to lead Faust, by explaining to him that he is a demon.  the demon then wants to leave. Faust wants to continue the conversation, and the demon says to him soon when i turn up again to show Faust his skills. Faust falls asleep and hears the choir singing the Easter song. a knock at the study door wakes him.<br>-in the study ch 4: <br>Faust welcomes the demon and they speak again. the demon wants to take him with him to show the beauty that is  all  around. Faust shall regain his youth, and this time to get to know about the beautiful part of life and this will help the demon. the demon offers to accompany Faust everywhere, and give Faust the most beautiful clothes, the best food, and drinks and read his every desire.<br>  <mark>------ (3/19)</mark>    ghost choir sings. what can i do for you demon. Faust knows he must give something up. the demon will surve Faust and when he dies then Faust will be the servant. Faust was ok with it because he did not care what happened after he dies. the demon wants his soul and to do so Faust should sign in blood and it can not be broken, but then it will be can be official, when Faust says that the demon has made him happy then its done. the demon has his plan and he will use it.<br>-Auer River's Cellar in Leipzig <br>ch 5:<br>the demon says " i must lead you now for all things in happy company, so you can realize in person, how easy and pretty it is, to be alive." they go in a wine cellar where one is happy. simple people, they sing a simple tone and drink. they have no big demands for life, as they enjoy themselves and the demon has them in his hand. he shows them some magic and transports in a haze into the world they would love to live in. <br><mark>-----4/26</mark><br>now they must go off to replenish his youth. but to do so they need the witches. so they leave to do it.<br>-the witches kitchen ch 6:<br>they show up the the fire and house. they then talk to the animals and tom cat. the witch appears and makes a potion for the demon. and he drinks it and replenishes his youth.<br>-street ch 7:<br>Faust sees a pretty girl and wants to talk to her. her name is Margarete. he feels a lot of emotions about her. Faust wants the demon to bring him the girl now. he does not want to wait. but the demon says tonight i promise you will have her.<br>-evening ch 8:<br>Faust goes to her in her room and the demon nudges a jewelry box to Faust with a chain in it with a pouch. the pouch has a magic powder on it for Margarete. the powder will make her love Faust and do what ever he says. the two re now alone together in her room. she suddenly feels strange and she does not know what happened to her. she sings and undresses in front of him. she wants to hang up her clothes in the dresser and inside she finds the jewelry box.  she then puts the chain on the necklace and wears it. she is now very happy.<br>-stroll ch 9:<br><br>-ch 10:<br>-ch 11:<br>-ch 12:<br>-ch 13:</div>]]></description>

It was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr in the small town of Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria. It was written in German first and then translated to many other languages. It was first written to be sung for Christmas mass at the church he now went to. he really wanted to make his new carol but no one knew why.  It was then translated into English in 1859. The carol has been translated into over 300 languages.<br>2. themes: peace, christian, love, dark, light.<br><strong>E. What inspires people to maintain religions traditions?</strong><br>- People have always used religion to make them feel safe and protected. It gives them a nice idea of what is to come for them. gives them a reason to be a good person. people try to make reminders of this in any way they can. one way to remember something or praze something is with songs. so they put a lot of work in religious songs to show their faith in god. so they work hard to write and learn these songs.<br><strong>F.</strong>  what I took away from this project was just how into religion and holidays people can be. they go hand and hand. and it is a good thing that they do because it means we can get these beautiful songs to sing on holidays with family.<br><br></div>]]></description>
