The ideas that we thought were the most important from today's lessons were that nations will often ally to protect their economic and defensive interests, proving to be mutually beneficial, which is often the foundation for allyship. Another important idea was the large technological advances that occurred during WWI, that would change how war was fought forever.

WWI And WWII were connected due to the the lasting consequences of WWI that would eventually lead up to the beginnings of WWII. A few of these include that Eastern Europe was now full of new states, weak in their development. This allowed them to be vulnerable to Germany's invasions.

We would like to agree and further expand on your idea of technological advances. In a similar fashion, WWII held a lot of advancements in the way war was fought, including the use of U-boats for the first time by Germany, and eventually nuclear weaponry by the United States.

Our group noticed a similar connection between WWI and WWII, in which a war-torn Europe was left vulnerable by rising powers. We find that the Treaty of Versailles had a large role in this as well, as Germany was severely punished as a result. This would inevitably lead to WWII as the basis of Hitler's rise to power.

Our group noticed that there was four themes present around WWI today: Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism. All of these were contributing factors in WWI, as militarism could be seen with Russia's actions immediately after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This assassination was from a history of imperialism that had been occurring in Eastern Europe, along with nationalism- as it was the Black Hand that killed the archduke.

The connection between WWI and WWII are stark in the existence of Germany's bitterness that resulted from the Treaty of Versailles. This, combined with aggression from other countries on multiple fronts and a struggling economy, left the Germany people vulnerable to persuasion, allowing the Nazi party to rise to power. This of course would allow Hitler to begin arming Germany secretly, breaking the treaty, along with forming alliances with Japan and Italy against the Soviet Union.
