"The rules were that whoever has the most mellifluous voice will win this singing competition." The announcer paused dramatically as the audience recalled the array of voices they had heard earlier in the evening. The announcer went on. "Like I said before, the winner will receive a gold cup, and $700. The judges will now announce the top 3 singers." And with that, he strode off of the broad stage.

Book #3 - Reached -- Ally Condie

This is a trilogy by Ally Condie. The three books are as follows:
1. Matched
2. Crossed
3. Reached
So far I have read Matched and Crossed, and they were really good, so I am hoping to be able to read Reached very soon! This trilogy reminds me of The Giver by Lois Lowry because it has a society, and everything - from the moment you are born, to the profession you will have, to the day you will die - is planned out seemingly perfectly. Cassia (the main character in Ally Condie's trilogy), and Jonas (the main character in The Giver), are both "society rebels", trying to question everything and forge their own paths. They both definitely are similar and different to each other.

 - I really sympathize with Polly when she is talking to Malcolm, because she is always tongue-tied around him. wHen she is around him, she cannot get what she really wants to say out.
- I wonder if Polly would have still founded a new mobile bakery is Huckle hadn't been around to support her through the toughest of times.
- I empathize with Polly when she feels almost completely destroyed (when she loses her bakery), and has to start over again.

Crossed by Ally Condie, is a window for me because the way that the people in that book live is totally different from how we live. First of all, in the society (in the book Crossed) everything is planned out for you. The society tells you who you will marry, what profession you will have, what you will wear, what you will eat, and the day you will die. All in all, Crossed, by Ally Condie, is a window for me because the way people live in that book is totally different from how we live.

Reflection from All of Unit 1

When we started this unit, I set three goals for myself. However, along the way, those goals were changed to:
1. Read as many books from one author/ start to read a series (or trilogy).
2. Read 25 books (or more).
3. Read more out of my comfort zone.
I met all three of my goals. Firstly, I started to read a trilogy (Matched, Crossed, and Reached). Secondly, I read 25 books. And last but not least, I read a romance novel (Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery), and a domestic fiction/saga book (Cane River). Throughout this unit, I have learned how to identify myself in books, and I have learned about other people's identities, and how to understand them even if I don't share the same interests, and even if we don't share the same culture and backgrounds.
