Peggy McIntosh's White Privilege

In Peggy McIntosh's Article, she says, "I think whites are carefully taught not to recognize white privilege, as males are taught not to
recognize male privilege." After reading this article, I noticed this in my own life. I grew up blinded by the fact that I was privileged because it's simply not talked about but it's a real thing.

Peggy McIntosh made a list of examples and effects of white privilege that happen in her daily life. Because she lists off all these examples, I began to think of my own daily effects of white privilege. Here are some that I thought of.

This clip is great at addresses white privilege coming from a white man's perspective. I think it addresses the effects of white privilege very well. When I saw this clip a little it ago, it really hit me and opened my eyes to this issue. I particularly love when Michael (in the news report) says, "I'm not going to be quiet" because that is how I feel. I know that I am White but I will not be silent, like he mentions, but I will fight for equality.

In conclusion, and as I have reflected on my life of privilege, the first step is to recognize that I do have white privilege and to be grateful for that BUT it's important to talk about it. It hasn't been talked about for this long and it is long over due. This issue needs to be addressed and worked on and the only way that's going
