This was named after the Massachute Indians in the area. Puritans established a very successful colony in the North. After a very difficult first winter, they established a relationship with a local tribe. Together, they became good neighbors that relied on each other for many things. As we read in our book, the holiday of Thanksgiving is based off of this group of Pilgrims and Native Americans.
