In Vladka Meed's time in the ghettos, she starved and was mistreated every day. Vladka strived to find a way to freedom, so she joined a youth group in the hope of a good education. Vladka started to build up strong confidence for her future while attending the secret schools. When the Warsaw ghetto was crushed in 1942, Vladka and other Jews lost all faith in staying safe from the Nazis. Vladka's whole family soon died after fighting with the Nazis. In October 1942, Vladka agreed to smuggle dynamite and weapons by bribing the guards. She carried important information over to others as the information about deaths in Treblinka.

Vladka was born in Warsaw, Poland, into a middle-class family. She attended a Yiddish secular school supported by a socialist movement and participated in several youth organizations, such as the Bund Youth Movement of Warsaw. After her brother and her mother were deported to Treblinka, she was asked by Abrasha Blum to be a courier on the outside of the ghetto to aid the Warsaw uprising.

Directly after the Holocaust was over, Vladka went to New York. Following the Wa,r she published a book about her experiences during the Holocaust. On Both Sides of the Wall was a book that talked about the deportations in the War, and ended by talking about the Warsaw Polish Uprising. The book was published in Yiddish and was later reprinted in English in 1993. She also took part in lecturing people about the Holocaust, and she was extremely involved in the education and memorialization of the Holocaust.

Vladka had joined the youth resistance groups that were forming inside the ghettos, which ultimately led to her managing to sneak out and purchase arms on the black market. Since she was fluent in Polish and had Aryan looks, she could pass as a Christian. Being able to pass as a Christian, she worked as a courier and worked with her future husband, Benjamin Meed, who was smuggling jews out of the ghettos at the time. They both worked together to smuggle Jews out of the ghettos. In the summer of 1942, the Germans started mass deportation, and Vladka's Mom and her brother were sent to Treblinka, and is where they were murdered. In 1943, German troops attempted to terminate the ghetto and the resistance from the Jewish people, and that is what we know as the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. After the fighting and hiding from the war, Vladka and Benjamin saw the ghettos burn right in front of their eyes.

She had watched her only relatives in the ghettos be sent away and murdered by the Nazi's. She still managed to keep being brave and smuggled weapons into the ghettos and camps to help the people who were in danger. She saved many lives and saved many children from being murdered. She did all of this by posing as a Christian, and if she were caught for not being a Christian, her consequences would most likely be death.
