These strengths were most solidified in Secondary school, when I was a student councillor. As an SC, I was involved in the planning and preparation of my school’s National Day celebration in 2021. I was in charge of my team, and together we planned for the celebration. Despite our many ideas, it was quite difficult to come up with a suitable programme due to the restrictions posed by the Covid 19 virus and consequently many of our ideas were rejected. Although I had a clear idea of what I wanted the programme to be like, I had to be open-minded to other ideas and work together with my team to persevere through these challenges. We ended up creating a programme that was generally quite successful and well-received by our schoolmates. For example, in Secondary 3, I was assigned the role of a Values-In-Action (VIA) leader. This role required me to plan part of the VIA project for the class and also to manage a group, together with the other VIA leaders. Thus, I had to be open-minded to the ideas of others, and give relevant feedback. I also had to be dependable, and relay information from teachers to my peers. The role also allowed me to become more confident, as I had to present, facilitate activities in front of others, and also step out of my comfort zone. VJC has always been my dream school as I strongly resonate with the core values of the school. I have been a sports leader for all 4 years of my secondary school life. Every year, I had to plan and facilitate a level-wide sports day for my cohort along with my fellow sport leader. This required imagination to brainstorm an idea, and smooth communication to prevent miscommunications that would affect the flow of activities. As we facilitated the activity for our own cohort, there was mutual trust among all the sports leaders to not play unfairly. For me, the important part of facilitating is bringing my best self to facilitate the sports day. In fact, in the first year that i was a sport leader, I was not as confident as I am now. I struggled to voice my opinions when we were planning, and had a hard time communicating with my teammates, however, I seeked for the advice of my then seniors, and I actively practiced the advices they gave me, which leads me to where I am now. Thus, I aspire to do my best every time in hopes that future sports leaders can follow the lead of their seniors, including me, and continue serving the school by holding successful sports days.

As a group leader of my  clarinet session in my CCA I had to coordinate my team member via zoom during the holiday cca session. However, I did not take this as an excuse to neglect them and always ensure that they are able to understand my lessons through the constant the feedback I get from them from online meetings. I always ensure that I never get my work done hastily. Although COVID has created a lot of unprecedented problems for my group, I was able to overcome these problems through my resilience. The Teachers never doubt in capability in getting the work done properly because I am dependable. I believe that with this, I qualify for this course. In this course, we will be handling with a lot of precious  appliances and conduct a lot of experiments. I am the pianist and she is the violinist. As pianists usually do, we play the accompaniment to the piece, so I will always have to look at my ensemble partner, if she slows down, I have to slow down with her. This is not an easy task as it takes a lot of coordination and cooperation. We often have to make eye contact for her to ‘signal’ me when I should slow down or speed up. I usually only play solo pieces for exams, so I would have to be more expressive, and I’m used to it, so playing as an accompanist takes a lot of practice. Playing in an ensemble was a new thing for me in secondary school, so I had to adjust quickly to play pieces less expressively in ensembles, almost monotonous. i have shown customer service skills and adaptability, through my participation in my school’s open house, where i shared about a subject to the visitors, and in a graduation ceremony, where i registered guests and assisted in the serving of food. i liked my interactions with the guests. i have also organised small scale events with my group of friends back in primary school, like class trips, a birthday event for our form teacher, and a set of post-psle activities for the class.
