Specifically, in the Adventure of Huckleberry Finn, the main focus of the book is freedom and fortune. “Jim is free, Tom's leg is healed, Huck still has his $6,000, and Aunt Sally has offered to adopt him,”(Philosophy Question.) Is the basic summary at the end of the book. Jim, the slave, ends up free which proves the point that freedom should be given as an equal opportunity to anyone. Huckleberry Finn ends up with lots of money, proving the aspect of fortune in The American Dream. The concept that people who start with less can end up with more is displayed through the storyline. Adoption happens, which shows that people with unequal status can help others make their own dreams possible. This further emphasizes his support due to the outcomes and how the characters progressed.

Not, by any means, by the artistry of the book but by the notion that this is the novel all American Literature grows out of, that this is a great novel, that this is even a serious novel.”(Gale Cover Story.) Mark Twain takes a different approach to writing about slavery. He doesn’t hesitate including harsh context, such as offense terms and more serious scenarios. Mark Twain holds a passionate view towards The American Dream by showing his perspective on slavery, and his dreams for freedom among all people. Jane Smiley critiques Mark Twain and his steps on writing the novel, Adventures in Huckleberry Finn. Many people agree that this book is Twain’s “masterpeice,” but Jane Smiley refutes and proves that the book lacks focus on slavery and is not appropriate for school teaching. He writes about more controversial topics to create discussion which makes his books and stories more popular amongst readers. Twain’s mention of slavery and how we have progressed from it shows his support towards The American Dream because it proves that things have gotten better over time and society is changing and becoming more open to different people having freedom and achieving big things.

He wrote about his experiences that he encountered first hand and about the people he met along the way. He witnessed good, and even bad things which he included in his work,“As he progressed though, and of course as a result of his worldwide travels, his writing took on a harder edge, chronicling some of the terrible things that man did to other men.”(My Poetic Side.) Topics include themes in The American Dream like freedom and various ideas in society. He writes about how people handle their money and who can do certain things based on their skin color or their class rank. This experience supports The American Dream because he gained knowledge that people who come from different backgrounds can achieve similar things.
