At first, however, the enemies seem to be the Shotet, warriors that live on the other side of the planet that Akos lives on. Shotet soldiers come to Akos’ house, kill his father, and abduct him and his brother, Eijeh. They are taken to the Noavek mansion, where it is revealed that Eijeh is an oracle and Akos can disrupt the current, the stream of energy that runs through everyone. Cyra, a Noavek, one of the leaders of Shotet, has a currentgift that is painful for her. Akos is told to come live with Cyrus to alleviate her pain. All Akos wants to do is get Eijeh home, but when he attempts it, Eijeh’s memories are tampered with and he becomes a monster, as Cyra’s older brother Ryzek is. Cyra and Akos are in love. That complicates things. They must overthrow Ryzek, but how? It’s a really good book that has some good LGBTQ representation as well. There’s a lesbian couple, and a few non-binary people as well!
