Event Type: (Turning Point)
Summary:
Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, and the U.S. will declare war on Japan. They were being forced to move out of their hard work homes in Spring 1941 because they were Japanese. George saw the people on the train crying, but still thought it was a vacation.
Explanation:
This piece in the book reveals how George is ignorant and unempathetic. He sees everyone crying as they all have to leave their hard-worked houses and are dehumanized. With the heavy atmosphere and everyone on the train being in a state of desolation. He still shines with a bright mood because he is naive. The Japanese people who boarded the train are stressed knowing that they could be massacred. This contributes to his character development because he eventually becomes more knowledgable through this experience understanding his surroundings.

Event Type: (Turning Point)
Summary:
The Takei family settles in their new homes. Mama and Papa unpack their belongings, and Mama smuggles in a sewing machine which disappoints George.
Explanation:
This scene in the story reveals how George is ungrateful and unappreciative. He desired having a present or something that would entertain him but received a sewing machine. He didn't even care about the significance of the object, and only wished for his own good. This scene impacted George because this event allows him to understand the values in items. He learns that his views on situations aren't the best and will grow from this.

Event Type: (Character Development)
Summary:
George and Henry catch insects, look out for dinosaurs supposedly hiding beyond the barbed wire, and become the victims of a mean trick played by two older boys, Ford and Chevy. They trick them into saying Japanese words that sound like swears in English.
Explanation:
This event contributes to the subject's development over the course of the story by teaching George a lesson to not be so gullible since this event results in George having rocks thrown at him by the furious guards. This causes the subject to change into who they are by shaping George and showing him to be more aware of phrases and other people's tricks to deceive him.
