Biological Transitions

Playing baseball allowed me to increase my heart, lung, and physical strength with constant use. My average heartrate began to increase over time. My ability to breathe deeply and rapidly in large amounts increased my lung capacity. And my physical strength increased my physical performance throughout this change in biological adolescent development. With the increase in those three areas, I was able to complete the biological transition of adolescent development through baseball.

Cognitive Transitions

Playing video games represents formal operational thinking because playing involves complex tasks with logical and systematic thinking. By being able to figure out step by step puzzles and complex maneuvers, I am able to use abstract thinking and metacognition because I am self-aware of these thinking processes. I have completed cognitive development in adolescence through of playing video games.

Social Transitions (Cultural)

The decline in religiosity represents my cultural aspect through adolescence and emerging adulthood. In early adolescence I was a frequent participant in Catholicism, however as I grew older, my beliefs changed. I became a part of the religious decline that is common in late teens. I did noy believe in the religious doctrine, nor did I associate any positive characteristics with Catholicism. This decline in religion is a representation of the cultural effect on my adolescent social development.

Family

Throughout my childhood, my grandparents and my mother raised me with an authoritative parenting style. This parenting style allowed me to feel that I could respond and be heard while also understanding that I needed to listen and respect my mom's and grandparents' rules. This let me have a perfect balance when cultivating autonomy and responsibility in my adolescent development.

Peer Groups

During my peer development during adolescence, my best friend and I experienced better times together through being emotionally vulnerable with each other, understanding those emotions, and feeling free to be open and honest with one another. Our relationship became stronger and better when experiencing those emotions. This peer friendship helped with adolescent development.

School

During my time at Buckeye High School, things changed a lot with COVID. However, throughout my four years, there was one consistency, being the school climate. During the school year I felt great when the teachers when supportive and involved in my academic career. Yet, when I needed to be disciplined, they showed me affective ways to not repeat the same mistake. I was able to learn and grow when the teachers supported me fully yet disciplined when needed.

Work, Leisure, and Media

When I worked in adolescence, I was a baseball coach for 16U and this allowed me to gain beneficial information in my future career goals in becoming a teacher. The benefits of working as a coach allowed me to gain responsibility and develop new occupational skills. While also benefitting my relationships and increasing my understanding of how adults function in the workplace. These lessons have benefited me greatly in adolescent development.

Identity

In my identity, I have learned that the best way I can express myself is through tattoos (I have 8). Tattoos contribute to the creation of my identity; this is heavily expressed in the social learning approach. As I look out for different designs and patterns that I think personally reflect and express my identity and who I want to be. Tattoos therefore have become an extension of my outward appearance and my internal identification of myself.

Autonomy

In adulthood, autonomy represents a fraction of my responsibilities. It is a representation of me being able to do things on my own without assistance and being able to support the lifestyle I choose. During the MLB season, I frequently was at the Guardians' stadium as an avid watcher. Being able to fully support myself financially in my hobbies and interests, I learned that this is an integral part of learning how to me autonomous in adulthood.

Intimacy, Love, Sexuality

In my romantic relationship, we have begun the bonding phase of falling in love, which is an adolescent love stage that expresses enduring and serious bonding. Through this phase, I have begun to notice the discussion on long-term commitment and future plans to be together, such as a continuing relationship after college and hopefully beyond. Through this final stage of adolescent love, I have learned that my romantic relationship is stronger than just affection or status.

Achievement

Being an education major at BW, has allowed me to gain academic success through the support they offer me. The education program has allowed me to have interpersonal success with my parents and family as they get to see my progress and I get to discuss what I have learned. I have also gained intrapersonal success by my professors' guidance and my motivation in classes. Being in education, it offers me future professional success in my goals, while achieving them on my own terms.
