Vampires originated in Eastern Europe in the 1700's when people began dying of unknown diseases. Without modern day science, people began looking for supernatural explanations for these deaths. Graves were dug up and bodies were found bloated, with extended finger nails and blood coming out of the mouth. At this time people didn't know that these were all common signs of death and the decomposing body, so people began to believe that these bodies were undead and feeding off others at night (killing them).
