The excursion to the Hawkesbury River was full of fun for me. Firstly, it was well-organized. Deb arranged the schedule and led us to our success. I was also happy to see many students try to get involved in activities such as buying ingredients, cooking, cleaning and enjoying talking a lot in English. Our trip would not have gone well without everyone’s cooperation. Secondly, I learned the name of plants and birds in Brooklyn. I have never seen gum trees in Japan. I was also interested in a swimming pelican. I took a video when I found it. Finally, this type of event was rare and interesting for me. A lot of students came from their house, met up in the train and had a great time together. If I’d stayed in Japan, I would not have had such a precious chance. All of these experiences made my excursion exciting and fascinating.

It was a wonderful trip. This was the first time that I took the train in Australia, on the way, just look around outside, you will find many beautiful views. The weather in last Thursday was pretty good and the air was fresh. There were many tall trees and beautiful flowers along the way.

Near the River, my classmates and me were doing the barbecue, It was delicious! There was a smart dog, can understand a word ”sit” . Traveling is also one of the best means for learning. I learned a lot during my travel like the trees can make water become more clearly.

In the afternoon we missed a train and wait one hour in the train station, we played games together, finally we took the train.

Traveling can opens my eyes to the world, if I didn’t come to the Sydney, I wouldn’t have had a special course.I enjoyed this day!
----Miki

Early in the morning, I met my classmates to go on a picnic. I was tired so I slept in the train all the time. Arriving on the river, we went to observe the trees growing in the salt water. It was very interesting to be able to grow tree in the salt water. We moved to a park to have barbecue. The barbecue was really good. I was happy to wat a delicious meal. After eating the barbecue, I had a relaxing time with people giving food to the gulls. It was first time to see gulls so close like that.

I originally likes the bustling atmosphere of Korea, full of energy. But after I came to Australia, I thought that relaxed and quiet atmosphere is also very attractive. In Australia, I can fell the relaxation l had not felt in Korea. I sat on a bench seat and enjoyed the relaxation of sunshine. I was so happy, feeling a cool wind with my favorite song. I felt the relaxedness of my whole body that I could not feel again in Korea. I want to feel the relaxation of mind in Korea without forgetting the relaxation.

Good memory~~ ( kate) When I arrived at the Hawkesbury River, I saw some beautiful waterside scenery. I have walked some beautiful places in Sydney, It was the first time for me to visit the riverside area. There are many mangrove trees that grow in salty water. It was nice to walk around the mangroves. When I was walking through the mangrove pathways which are located in Olympic Park, the water was dirty, but the water of Hawkesbury River is clean. I walked along the riverside after our BBQ, I was so happy. I liked it very much. Walking along the beach is good, but it is better to walk along the riverside. There was blue sky, beautiful clouds and the yachts on the river also added to the wonderful views. The houses across the river looked nice. Most of all, the weather was fantastic. I spent a good time with my classmates in a beautiful place

My trip to the Hawkesbury River

Last week Friday, our class had a wonderful trip to Hawkesbury River. It takes about forty five minutes by train from Macquarie University station to the Hawkesbury River. The scenery on the way was pretty good. After getting off the train, we took the photos around the train station, and we walked around to see some special views of the river.

At lunchtime, we had a barbecue near by the river. The scenery around the river was beautiful. Our classmates prepared so many different types of meat, including pork sausages, T-bone and rump steak and chicken. We also had mushrooms and onion. Actually, I didn’t particularly like this food, but the taste was not bad. I’m sure my classmates loved the barbecue.

After the barbecue, we saw some people who lived near by the Hawkesbury River walk to the beach. They took their pets and children. At this moment, we found a big black dog walking around our gridiron. The dog’s owner called him ‘Inca’. He was impressive to me because he was huge and very well trained.

After the activities, Miki, Zane and I decided to leave early. Unfortunately, we missed the train, and we had to wait for the next train. As a group, we all got on really well.

On August 10, I went to Brooklyn with my classmates. It was sunny and warm. In the morning, I woke up at 7:30 and prepared. I got on the train from Gordon station and transferred at Hornsby station. At Hornsby station, I met Kana and Hazel. We got on the train and met other classmates there.

After arriving at Hawkesbury River station, we decided to take a picture. The landscape was beautiful. I took a lot of pictures. Then, we decided to do a bushwalk. There were many mangroves. It was my first time to see such kind of trees. The water was from the ocean. I was surprised that mangroves can live in salty water.

After that, we enjoyed muffins. They were delicious! We took a short break there and started walking. When we arrived at the BBQ spot, I was so surprised that the electric BBQ machines were free to use. We enjoyed beef sausages, pork sausages, spicy sausages, T-bone steak, rump steak, chicken thigh fillets, and vegetables. They were nice! There were brush turkeys and sea gulls around us. Since I had to go back to the university to attend the class in the afternoon, I hurried to finish eating. I ran to the station to get on the train. Fortunately, I was able to arrive at the university in time!

To sum up, I really enjoyed my trip to the Hawkesbury River. I could talk to all of my classmates and get to know each other. I had a good time!

On August 10, I went to the Hawkesbury River to see the mangroves and to have a BBQ with my classmates. The Hawkesbury River is located by the township of Brooklyn. There are trees called mangroves that grow in salt water. It took about 20 minutes by foot from the station and we talked all the way to the mangrove walk. I could breathe in fresh air and feel relaxed.

After walking, we went to the jetty to have a BBQ. The day before Thursday, some of my classmates prepared the food we wanted to eat. We had T-bone and rump steaks and beef, pork and spicy sausages, chicken fillets and vegetables such as onions and mushrooms. I surprised that except for the Japanese students, no one had ever cooked a BBQ. The Korean and Chinese students didn’t know how to do it, therefore, the Japanese students did it and we taught them about it. Another thing I surprised about was that there was so much meat! In Japan, we usually have more vegetables such as eggplant, broccoli, carrots and so on. Moreover, we always have noodles called Yakisoba at a Japanese in BBQ. I ate rare steak, however, we often eat well-done steaks. Therefore, I regrated that I hadn’t eaten it before last Thursday. I think this was great new experience for me in Australia.

I really enjoyed last Thursday. I was able to become good friends with my classmates because we cooperated in the preparation of the BBQ and we walked and talked together in English. Moreover, it was a warm winter’s day and there were beautiful clouds in the sky. We were favoured with fine weather last Thursday.

We prepared beef, chicken and some vegetable and we put English Language Centre’s refrigerator. Next day, Zane who is my Chinese friend and I bring our food. And then we went to Macquarie University Station where we will meet. We took a train for 40 minutes. Firstly, when we arrived to Hawkesbury River we started to walk around the Hawkesbury River. On the way, I saw some statue. I forgot the statue name but it was very nice. Secondly, we went to barbeque place because I think our classmates wanted to eat barbeque. We cooked T-bone steak and chicken wing with Teriyaki. It was very fantastic. While eating, we saw a lot of plants and animals. Finally, we took a rest. We had a lot of stories. When I go back to my country, I missed our class.

Thank you~

The Hawkesbury River is a very beautiful place where I went for the first time. It was a pretty good day and everyone looked very happy but unfortunately some students couldn’t stay for the whole day because they had classes in the afternoon. First of all, I was late because the bus that I was supposed to take was late and I couldn’t make it to our meeting place on time. It was good because I finally got there. I don’t like transportation in Australia.

Kenny’s music, which I listened to while walking in the mangroves, was a little bit different from the atmosphere of the place but it was also interesting. It was my first time to the mangroves. The trees were thick and the mystic image was strong, but it was quiet, and it was a nice place to be able to feel calm and peaceful. I thought that it was good if there were fish and water life in seawater under the mangroves. To tell the truth, people who had classes in the afternoon were a little angry at this time because they were worried that they would be late for class that afternoon. However, everything turned out fine.

The barbecue meat was full of chicken. The preparation was divided between various people after all. Hazel who leads everyone and it’s a neat thing to do from enjoying a walk with Peter, Zane who is always a little idle. I was so happy to see that everyone were all ordinary people. The chicken was hard to cook and it took a lot of time. Is it normal that Australian chicken isn’t skinned? I was a little disappointed because I like skin. When Hazel and Hiromi baked the beef at another griddle, I couldn’t say anything move quickly than chicken and it was delicious. Well, the seasoning was only salt and pepper, but there was no doubt it was delicious.

After eating, the teachers went for a walk, and I talked with Rina and few Koreans who remained.

When I sleepy on the way, Jinn and Ann said we’d return, so Rina and I went home together.

It was a good to spend a day happily with everyone thought it was to have one more event to go home.

I went to Hawkbury River. The point I enjoyed is two things.

One thing is walking around the Mangroves. Mangroves are trees that grow in salt water. I did not think Mangroves were beautiful, but it made me relaxed. When we walked around the Mangroves, Kenny’s blue tooth speaker sounded. It was very relaxing music. We enjoyed listening to his music.

The second thing we did was to have a BBQ. We grilled beef, pork, spicy sausages, chicken, onions, Brussels sprouts and mushrooms. All of them were really delicious, especially because I like onion. I was glad to eat it. I have never had a BBQ with Korean and Chinese people, so it was a ‘first’ for me. In Japan, we grill marshmallows at BBQs, but In Korea and China it is not common. There is a different culture. I didn’t know there is a different culture of BBQ, so I was surprised. I thought I want Koreans and Chinese to try to grill marshmallows someday.

As I mentioned, I enjoyed this excursion. I want to have a BBQ with my class members again.

I am writing about an excursion which was with lovely weather and classmates on last Thursday. Actually I went to the excursion three times in ELC. However I have never perpared that from first with classmate. Before the day, I was helping classmates who bought food for BBQ such as vegetable , meat etc. Ah! We brought drinks each other.

On Thursday we got on the train to Hawkesbury River. We promised that all of the classmate will meet the first carriage on train because everyone got on the train at other station. Finally we arrived there together. Anyway I gave my first impression about the river was really clam, clear and relaxed. We cooked BBQ just after arriving. But we couldn’t eat those easily because there were two machines for BBQ, another’s was not good for grilling. But that was excited for me. Because in Korea there isn’t free a BBQ machine. If you want to enjoy the BBQ outside, you will bring it. Anyway an outdoor BBQ party with friends is always fantastic for me although too short duration.

After BBQ, some of us went back. On the other hand, an old group including me took a walk around a wharf in Hawkesbury. Actually I disliked walking when I was young. At that time, I was enjoying hard sports. But I get an age more than more, I enjoy walking despite myself. When we taken a walk, some woman picked up garbages by herself. That was interest for me. Someone had thrown it, another one picked it up. During to walk, I could saw many wild animals such as a turkey and a pelican that was so big. Oops! I forget Inca which is a Deb’s friend’s dog and pedaling dogs in the sea as well.

As a result, I never forget this excursion. because I could be closed to classmates although I wasn’t able to understand perfectly each other in the experience. On the other hand, I am sorry that will have to say “Good bye!” to them after a few days. Thank you for giving a good memory for me.

It was a good opportunity to visit Hawkesbury River on excursion. I think going outside the classroom and doing something outside of class is a good way to improve English for two reasons. First of all, while me and my classmates were enjoying walking around the place, we talked a lot about a variety of trees such as mangroves which grow in salt water and birds such as pelicans and bush turkeys in English. We learnt and used specific words at that moment. Secondly, we also had a barbecue there. We cooked there while enjoying the beautiful view and chatting with each other. We could learn a lot of daily English expressions through our conversation. We had to speak English if we wanted to cook and help prepare the barbecue. In conclusion, outdoor class activities can be meaningful and memorable experiences for students.
