The book says that racism is a good thing because it helps them stay above the black people. Blacks in Greenwood aren't treated the same as white people. The issue needs to be solved because some people were treated poorly. This affects the black working in the field. Racism affects them by not being treated right and not having common right like talking to other people out of the fields and being disrespected in the fields.

Author Anonymous

During the 1900's color people weren't liked by the whites in America. They had to sit in specific parts of a bus and had to give up their seat if there weren't any spots for a white person to sit down. They also has their own drinking fountains and restrooms. Colored people couldn't go in stores or restaurants if there was a sign saying they couldn't.
