A conflict in The Hunger Games is man vs society. Katniss goes against the rules and volunteers to take her sister's place in the hunger games. She did not want any harm to come to her sister, so she took her sister's place. Man vs Society is also represented by the hunger games itself. Since the population of the society is growing, they make the people in the district put their name in the raffle each time they ask for food. In addition to that, one person gets picked to fight for their life against the people from other districts. In the Hunger Games, the tributes to the games are forced to participate and they do not have a say. They do not gain anything from participating or

The lottery's conflict is also man vs society. The society's tradition has been to hold a lottery to find out who is going to be the sacrifice to ensure a good harvest. Even though the people may not agree with the lottery, they still participate and they think it is normal. Every year when the lottery comes around, they act like it is a routine and they get it over with so they can be home in time for dinner.

Another type of conflict in The Hunger Games is Man vs Man. The people that run the districts and the societies draw names for making people fight for their lives. The conflict of man vs man cones in during the actual hunger games. You have to fight for your life and that means killing others and protecting yourself. More conflicts come in when groups form within the people fighting and forming an alliance. Katniss has to fight a group of people that are chasing her down through the woods and she has to escape them, because it is life or death.

The difference between the Hunger Games and The lottery's conflicts are that The Lottery is more willing. In The Hunger games, you get picked from a "lottery" and then you have to fight for your life. In this story, the characters don't gain anything from the two people getting picked and representing them. In the Lottery, the people in the town benefit from them killing the person. They get ensured that they will have a good harvest. Another difference in the two stories is who is killing the winners of the "lotteries". In the Hunger Games, other people from different districts are murdering. But in the Lottery, it;s the people in the town who stone the winner.
