The position of Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is the career closest to functioning similar to a primary care physician. FNPs typically perform many of the same functions as an MD working in a medical office, hospital, clinic, or nursing facility. Their responsibilities include patient consultations, assessments, prescribing medications and treatment, and more.

According to Faubion, (2021, paragraph 2), “the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average entry-level nurse practitioner salary in Texas is almost $85,000 annually.”  However, there are other factors that will impact the potential starting salary, i.e.  amount of time worked in nursing or other healthcare-related position before becoming an NP, the geographical practice area, practice setting and schedule.
