Her partners, Freddie and Truus Overteegan, never revealed how many they killed before their deaths as well. Hannies remains were uncovered after the war along with 421 other resistance members, she was officially laid to rest in  Erebegraafplaats Bloemendaal, Bloemendaal. She joined the resistance at the age of 18, her resistance work started by hiding her friends at her parents to keep them from concentration camps. She started with stealing fake identification cards for Jewish people in hiding. Hannie took her work further when she joined forces with Freddie and Truus Overteegan. They began by riding on their bikes and shooting Nazis, they often dressed younger than their real ages, so they wouldn't be suspected of the murders. Their work soon evolved as they began going to local bars and seducing drunken soldiers. They would then take them into the woods and kill them. Hannie soon became known by the Nazi party as the "girl with the red hair". The newspaper was actually a cover for transporting documents for the resistance. She was transported to an Amsterdam prison where she was faced with solitary confinement and torture. They soon identified her by the red roots of her natural hair, they ordered her to be executed by gunshot at close range.
