Dual Accreditation course

The PPC course is BPS accredited and also entails training for the SEG Level 3 counselling skills certificate. This is embedded into and completed throughout the course and you are taught by a team of registered and practicing counsellors. This means that if you want to go on to train as a professional counsellor once you graduate, you are already eligible to apply for the professional training courses!

Volunteering opportunities: Wellbeing Support Scheme

We believe that not only is it important to provide our students with the knowledge they need to go on to exciting careers, but also the relevant skills. For this reason we regularly provide voluntary opportunities such as the wellbeing support scheme.

Once students have completed the ABC Level 2 counselling skills certificate they are eligible to apply for a voluntary post as a mentor for high school students who are experiencing a range of emotional and personal issues and have been referred by their safeguarding team.

What will I be studying?

You will be studying a range of modules, some of which are core modules (i.e. students across all psychology pathways study) and some of which are specific to the PPC course.
The link above will take you to the PPC semester 1 timetable for full-time students. Part-time students will be undertaking two modules each semester instead of three.

Do you want to become a registered counsellor?

We offer a MSc in Counselling and Positive Psychology which includes Professional training! This means that students gain real experience in a placement working with clients on a one to one basis. Once you have completed this MSc you will be eligible to take the online proficiency test and register and begin working as a qualified counsellor with the BACP.

The PPC course at Bolton offers everything you need to develop counselling skills through skills practise with peers, opportunities to use the therapy rooms on campus and real life experience working within a school next to the University. In addition to the school, guest speakers come in often, offering more opportunities for developing your new found counselling skills and are able to guide and support in environments that will give invaluable experience in your counselling career.

The ABC certificate is embedded into the course; level 2 and 3 at graduate level, with the option of level 4 at Masters. Observations Labs and Virtual Reality

Our counselling modules are very hands on and we give students the opportunity to develop their Counselling skills with a range of activities. We have specially designed counselling observations labs and well virtual reality equipment to understand VR therapy and technology advances!
