Hunger is a major cause of death around the world. Hunger can be caused by poverty, lack of resources, and more. The continents where hunger is most prominent are Asia and Africa. I chose hunger as my topic because I think more people need to take action on it and there are plenty of people in the world who could contribute to helping people who need food and resources. If hunger was improved throughout the world, then a lot fewer people would suffer.

Shortages of food can be caused by drought, infected crops, famines, pandemics, and political and economic unrest. Famine takes place when a certain area becomes extremely scarce of food. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is an organization providing billions of dollars in aid to end global hunger and poverty. This source was very useful. The goal of this resource is to give helpful information about world hunger. At the bottom of the page, it provides two opposing opinions about the best way to reduce world hunger without choosing to focus on one. This source was objective because the author never sided with a particular opinion or point of view. This source provided me with more understanding of my topic of research. It also gave me an idea of what kind of solutions there could be to solving world hunger.

People that suffer from hunger are troubled with developmental and cognitive impairments, resulting in lower academic achievement than that of their peers. Hunger can impair an individual to reach their full potential. Hunger affects economies long term by increasing health care costs, increased reliance on government programs, and increasing economic instability. This source helped me gain knowledge about different effects of hunger and why it is important to solve it. The article isn't really biased and it states all the important facts without an opinion.

A solution to world hunger would decrease migration. “Currently, as many as 828 million people, or one in every 10 people on the planet, is affected by hunger.” Possible long term applications to hunger include increasing investments in global food and nutrition security programs, expanding knowledge about hunger throughout the world, and encouraging the younger generation to continue caring and researching about this world problem. This source provided good information, however, I think this source may be biased because it talks a lot about how malnutrition in the United States is a threat to national security and it includes lot of quotes from different people who have the same opinion about the topic.

Three reasons everyone should care more about hunger are that it negatively impacts economies, impairs individuals’ potential in life, and because it impacts so many people. The second source that I linked states, “Hungry children are sick more often and can suffer from physical, developmental, and cognitive impairments, resulting in lower academic achievement than that of their peers.” This quote shows how children suffering from hunger are weaker, both physically and mentally than their peers. Children that fall behind other kids are less likely to be successful in the future because their brains develop slower than others. The third link that I cited, says “Currently, as many as 828 million people, or one in every 10 people on the planet, is affected by hunger.” The number of people impacted by hunger all over the world should be heartbreaking enough for more people to care. Hunger can negatively impact economies because it can decrease employment, education, and more money would have to be spent to support families in need of food sources.
