The first contrast and contradiction in the excerpt that I found was when Byron killed the bird and felt really sad about it.
This surprised me because Byron is a jerk and treats everyone else horribly, so the fact that he was sad, is a contradiction from his character. I think he acted this way because he really does have feelings, but acts tough in front of everyone all the time.
