Envisioning the future is one way I motivate myself to strive to reach my career goals. I can imagine myself surrounded by friends and family, listening to music during my commute, and settling in each day to do what I love: writing. I picture myself writing articles, editing and reading other peoples work, and venturing into other avenues of writing, never limiting myself.

My values will always be intertwined with the concepts of kindness, fairness and love. One of the reasons I adore writing and reading is because you can immerse yourself in different types of worlds, whether it's fiction or non-fiction. There can be different themes, motifs and metaphors that encourage you to open your mind and heart and emphasize with characters who make choices you disagree with. You can analyse, be in awe of, and be inspired by the brevity of others.

What Inspires Me?

I'm inspired by creators such as screenwriters, artists, singers, and audio engineers; anyone who uses their skill to bring something interesting into the world, whether it be pottery, a film, classic music, or poetry. I want to be someone who creates something that makes others discuss my work, or be inspired by it. Art is one of humanities greatest contributions to society, and to be able to admire so many amazing works of art, music and film is truly inspiring.

Who is a Thought Leader in my Industry That I Admire?

In my industry, journalism, I admire Phil Dickie. Not only has he received Australia's highest journalism award, the Gold Walkley, but he was one of the reporters apart of The Fitzgerald Inquiry, exposing corruption in the government, and probably the closest scandal Australia has to Watergate. He demonstrates true perseverance and a desire to inform the public of the truth, no matter how dangerous the topic. He's also a wonderful writer.

What Skills & Qualifications do I Need?

To be successful in the field of journalism I must receive a bachelor degree, and possibly Honours and an MA if I want to elevate my knowledge and contribute to academic discussions. As a journalist, I need a sharp, concise vocabulary and an adept level of writing skills. I also need to abide by Australian journalist code of ethics, ensuring that I approach my job with fairness, honesty and kindness. As an additional skill, I would like to be fluent in another language.
