Much of my self care activities were in a similar space. My group suggested that by doing yoga and mindfulness meditation before bed it may help me to relax and get into sleep quickly. I thought this was a very practical solution to tackling self care. One of the things I mentioned was that a lot of the times I don't do yoga is because I was being lazy. It was suggested that I could practice restorative yoga and work into more athletic yoga if my mood changes. Finally Weston suggested a great YouTube yoga instructor, Yoga with Adrien.

My self care activities are all ways for me to destress and take some time for myself while doing things that I enjoy. The main problem that I have is that I get so wrapped up in everything going on with school that I don't find a lot of time in order to do these activities. The main take away that I got after talking with my group is that I should schedule my self care activities just like I would schedule things such as homework and assignments. I am very scheduling and planner oriented so just writing these activities out would be a great way for me to make sure that I am finding time to take care of myself.

My group offered me a lot of good feedback on how I can help myself achieve my self care goals. The advice included: setting a bedtime for each night so that I can ensure that I get enough sleep to feel well-rested each day, getting my plants on the same watering schedule to make it easier to remember to care for them, and taking my ukulele with me to more places so that I have an opportunity to play it more. All of these suggestions will help establish a routine that facilitates my self-care activities. Ease of incorporation into my daily life is important for when I get busy and don't have much time to devote to doing things for myself. But it is also times like these that it is most important to incorporate my self-care activities. I will also be thinking of names for my succulents, as per the suggestion of my group. :-)

My self-care super friends had a lot of great feedback for me. I focused on the following sections:
Psychological
-Keep talking to therapist
-Keep up with psychiatrist appointments

Physical
-Work out, prevent overuse injuries from getting worse

Personal
-Cook for my family
-Keep up with old friends, make new ones

I'm doing alright with 1 and 3, but I've been really slacking with physical activity lately. I need to lift some weights, which I have. The hard part is just actually doing it. I think once I get my diagnosis squared away with my psychiatrist, the meds will help me feel motivated.

My group suggested couple of ideas that I could implement to help me achieve my self-care plan. I had chosen physical, personal and emotional areas from the self-care wheel. Currently I am struggling with completing my physical plan – walking/exercising 30 minutes every day. My group suggested that I should not try waking up early rather walk/exercise as soon as I return from work. They also suggested the Peloton app that has yoga videos that I could use on rainy/winter days. They asked me to continue my personal plan of spending time with my daughter on Friday or Saturday evening based on her choice. They recommended not to combine my emotional personal time with the movie night I plan with my daughter instead have a separate movie or entertainment time for myself. Thank you friends for all the wonderful suggestions. I will try to follow the physical plan. Hopefully I succeed.

Since we are going into week 3 of this self care accountability, I have started to refine my goals and really work them into my schedule. One of my goals was to plan my week out every Sunday. I have sort of transitioned that into Mondays because it works better for my schedule. My group thought this was a good adjustment and suggested that I keep adjusting as needed to meet the needs of my schedule. They thought I may be putting too much pressure on myself to stick to a schedule and work in all of my assignments and they reminded me to not overwork myself and if I need to just skim readings for classes to make time for myself that's okay.

My self- care friends are the best!! They had such great feedback for me! My three goals are listed below and their suggested are under those goals.

Goal 1: Make a short-list of the places I would like to live (Personal).
-Prioritize your wants/needs.
-Make a list of potential cities, and have your wife make her own list and see if there are any places you both list.
-Be willing to move somewhere that does not hit every single desired trait.

Goal 2: Make sure I discuss the expectations my supervisor and mentor have for me, regularly (Professional).
-Continue weekly meetings with supervisor/mentor to ensure you are where you need to be.
-Do a quick check in on how you're doing with your mentor teacher each morning.
-Regularly ask for feedback from mentor teacher on what you are doing well and what you can improve on.

Goal 3: Get at least 7 hours of sleep a night (Physical).
-Don't turn the sports game on at all.
-If you must watch the game, record it and watch it the next day.
-Choose a time for bed each night that meets your desired hours of sleep and stick to it.
-If you are about to start something (show, project, chore) right before your scheduled bed time, do not start it.

My self-care super friends were very helpful providing insight to my goals.
My goals focused on:
Physical: Get 30 minutes of exercise a day (running, walking, strength training, etc.).
-My group allowed me to see that its okay to take a break two days a week. Also, suggested if I still wanted to get 30 mins in on my busier days to split the time, such as 10 min when I can throughout the day.

Spiritual: Thoughtfully pray once a day.
-My group suggested that I focus on gratitude and reflection. They gave some suggestions of agendas to use to help and podcasts to listen to.

Personal: Spend quality time with fiancé, devote afternoon/morning or few hours a week without worrying about schoolwork/placements.
- My group suggested that I make sure to find this time, even if it comes down to scheduling it in the week. They also suggested combining this quality time with my other goals to exercise and pray together.

This week I talked with Chris, Mindy, and Alphonsa about how I have been doing with my goals so far. I have been doing well with reading in my free time, as well as spending time with friends, but I have not been getting outside and exercising like I wanted to. Some suggestions from the group were to maybe not go for a run like I was thinking, but to just go on a walk and spend some time outside. I have been feeling really cooped up lately, especially since my placement is still all online, so I think spending some time outside would be really good for me. I would definitely be more motivated to do this if i would just be going for a walk, rather than a run. Then we talked about how eventually I can work my way up to more intense physical activity.

This week I talked with Alex, Alphonsa, and Chris about my progress with my self care goals. I shared that I have been quite successful with my goal of at least 7 hours of sleep per night. I have been able to exceed this goal most nights. I have also been successfully taking care of my succulents--all are still alive and well. The goal that I have been struggling with the most is my goal of playing music for at least one hour per week. This is an activity that I typically do when I am bored, and with class and school work picking up, I have not had much "bored" time. My group suggested that instead of blocking out a specific amount of time to play music, I instead aim to play one song a week. I like this suggestion and will be modifying my self care goal accordingly. My group tasked me with preparing one song on the ukulele and naming my succulents for our next meeting, so I will be focusing on those goals to keep me on track with my self care.

This is a follow-up week with Chris, Alex, and Mindy. I discussed my progress and asked for suggestions to achieve one of my self-care plan. I have been spending time with my daughter and relaxing. I was not accomplishing the physical part of my plan that involves exercising for 30 minutes every day. Alex suggested I go for a walk once I return from work, and Chris suggested that I walk in school before leaving since the weather is also getting colder outside. I am planning to walk for 30 minutes in the school corridor and try to accomplish my goal.

So overall my "plan" has been going pretty well. I've been doing all of the tasks that I wanted to do frequently, except for the exercise, but that is getting a little better. I was telling my group about how I'm starting to feel a little bit claustrophobic in my small apartment and asked if they have any suggestions. The consensus was that I need to get outside more often, even if it is just going for a short walk for a little bit. I have been doing this lately, and I think I'm going to try to make it a daily (or at least every other day) routine.
