The absence of men during WWII

When men were going to war women were seen taking over their jobs. Once people realized they could do the same jobs as men, they started to come up with the idea of all-girls sports. During this time, all-girls baseball and golf leagues were created for women only.

Intercollegiate women sports

In the 1940s-50s there was a huge up-rise in intramural and intercollegiate women's sports. Schools put laws/rules into place based on the school, these laws said that women's sports need to be included and funded more.

Women in the olympics

Women were allowed to do recreational sports in the late 1800s but nothing serious and worth making a life off of. In the 1900 Olympics in France, women were allowed to participate. Women had swimming, horseback riding, shooting, basketball, and baseball

1864 Croquet club

In 1864 a group of 25 founding members formed a croquet club in Brooklyn, NY. This was the first sport said to be played by both sexes.

1866 women involvement in baseball

in 1866, two baseball teams with female players were formed at Vassar college in New York.

1867 ladies golf club

In 1867 the first ladies golf club was created. It was in St. Andrews, Scotland and it gained just 500 members in a year and had people traveling from all around the world to go play there.
