This detail shows that Alec always thought of the garden on that one week. Another detail from "Brick by Brick" on page 12, paragraph 1 it says "Why would someone destroy our property?" and "Alec's face reddened, and he turned away." These two details show that he cares about the garden because of how much work he has done for it and because some destroyed his hard work on the garden. These details from "Brick by Brick" shows that Alec really cares and loves the garden because of all his hard work on it.
