Canada, New Zealand and Australia were some of the territories than belonged to the British Empire. In 1867, Canada became a self-governing country due to the fact that it was too big for the Empire to manage, but it still belonged to it. Australia and New Zealand followed Canada's steps in 1901 and 1907. Consequently, in 1926, the Empire declared all its colonies could be in control of their governments, but could only trade with other colonies. Later on in 1931, Canada, Australia and New Zealand became economically independant, and in 1980's they oficially gained control of their own Constitutions, but as a part of the Commonwealth, which was created by the British 1950, after the dissolution of their Empire.

First of all, in the 1860's all empire territories took direct rule from the British. Then, in 1867 as Canada was too big to administrate, it was decided to make it a self-governing country (patrly). Between 1901 and 1907 Australia and New Zealand took a similar way as Canada. Then in 1926 every country of the empire was equal but united under the crown, which means they could have their own legislationand administrate themselves, but they were still under the control of the british crown. In 1931 Canada, New Zealand and Australia became independent, they retained a close patternship with the empire. Then in 1950, the English empire commonwealth sled over to the commonwealth of nations. And finally, in 1980 Canada, Australia and New Zealand gained control on their own constitutions.

Sofia Roca

Lourdes de la Fuente

That means that the empire own them and they had no right to trade with other nations that were not part of the British Empire.

Later on, Canada was too big to handle so they let them become a self governing country within the Empire. That meant that they could create their own laws and parliament without asking the Empire, but they still cannot trade with other nations.

Before 1867 New Zealand, Australia and Canada were part of the British empire. Until 1867, in which year Canada was allowed by the UK to become partly independent, since it had started to become too big to manage. This sort of independence allowed the Canadian people to vote for their own representatives. However, they were had to respond to the British crown. Soon, in 1901, Australia was allowed to achieve this state as well as New Zealand in 1907. Soon this was declared the norm for all former colonies of the empire.

After that in 1931 the three previously mentioned countries, became economically independent. Meaning that they had full economic independence, from the empire, although they were still legislatively bound to the empire, as well as sharing currency and only able to trade with former colonies of the empire.

After the second world war, due to lack economic viability, the British empire was dissolved, meaning that all previous colonies were declared economically independent, although still constitutionally bound to the UK.

Finally, in 1980, the three biggest nations, Canda, Australia and New Zealand, gained complete independence from Great Britain.
