Sodium + chloride --> Sodium chloride
This is an example of synthesis reaction. It oocurs when two or more simple elements or compounds reacts to form a more complex product. In this equation, there are 2 reactants which are sodium and chloride. Sodium reacts with chloride to form sodium chloride. In real life, sodium chloride is the main ingredient in table salt and is commonly used, and can be used in the food processing industry. It is hygroscopic, so it is used to preserve food. This reaction has many important applications in industry and chemistry. Normally, we will write the names of substances in terms of their chemical formulas such as sodium which is symbolized as Na, similar to chloride which is Cl and sodium chloride which is NaCl. Therefore, we can write the above chemical equation in a more concise way Na + Cl --> NaCl
