The Vietcong aimed to unify Vietnam under communist rule. The Vietnam was fueled by the conflict between the Vietcong and the South Vietnamese government, supported by the United States. The Vietcong's impressive stamina and fighting skills led to a stalemate of almost 20 years. The conflict between the US and North Vietnam contributed to the anti-war movement globally, and impacted the US foreign policy for decades to come.

The wide spreading of the chemical Agent Orange and other herbicides led to extreme environmental damage, causing deforestation destruction of crops, and contamination of crops. Agent Orange left significant side effects because it contained the highly toxic chemical dioxin. Exposure to the chemical led to effects including, cancer, birth defects, and neological disorders. Many Vietnamese civilians and US veterans were exposed to the chemical during the war. The use of Agent Orange increased public awareness about the environmental impacts as well as side effects of chemical warfare, and the company that produced Agent Orange faced lawsuits from those affected.

Napalm is a highly toxic and flammable substance that sticks to skin, and burns at fatally high temperatures. Napalm has caused brutal injuries and often death. It was an extremely effective warfare weapon in the jungles of Vietnam, because it had the ability to burn through vegetation that was used as hiding spots for guerilla soldiers.

Anti-war sentiment in the US was increasing as the war was prolonged and casualties went up. The concept of Vietnamization was popular as a way to reduce American troops while easing domestic pressure, as well as limiting American involvement for possible peace negotiation. However, Vietnamization did not prevent South Vietnam to fall to communist forces in 1975.

Many Doves are the younger generation who go against mainstream culture and opt for peace instead of fitting into the capilitasist society. Doves advocated for peace instead of continuing the fight against Vietnam, often through non-violent protests. Anti-war sentiment grew as the Doves gained power, revolutionizing the idea of peace.

Many Hawks believed that winning the war in Vietnam will stop the spread of communism. Hawks believed stepping up in military action against Vietnam in order to win the war, while advocating for an aggressive foreign policy based off a competent military, instead of resolving conflicts without the threat of force. We can see patterns between the Hawks vs Doves and the Big Stick Diplomacy vs Moral Diplomacy in the past, and it is for sure to be spotted in the future as well.

Domino Theory is the theory that if one country fell to communism, surrounding countries would also fall, like dominos. This theory influenced US intervention in Vietnam, and changed US foreign policy especially in Southeast Asia. The theory originated in the Cold War era as the US tried preventing the spread of communism with a variety of tactics.

Counter Culture was a cultural and social movement in the 1960s and 70s, in response to the mainstream social pressures placed on young adults and teenagers. It was a way of protesting for social change by challenging traditional norms in opposition to the Vietnam War, and was a platform for activism. The movement influenced political policies, such as civil rights legislation and environmental protection laws, as well as opened the eyes of many to a new (although potentially unsustainable), lifestyle.

The massacre, due to intense anti-war sentiments, took place during a student protest at Kent State University. Students protested Nixon's decision to invade Cambodia as part of the war effort. The national guard was called to disperse the crowd, but tensions escalated until shots were fired. The use of force against protesters shocked the nation and led to a wave of protests and strikes across the country as well as shifted public opinion against the war.

The Pentagon Papers was a classified study from the US Department of Defense, describing American involvement in Vietnam from 1945 to 1967. Although Nixon promised the public war would come to an end soon, the leaked papers went against his promise, revealing that the US never planned to exit the war as long as the threat of communism remained. This shocked and outraged the nation, as well as made many lose faith in the government due to the massive lie. Conspiracy theories from this era continue to stir doubt in modern society about the reliability of the government.
