First and foremost, the class discussed sculptures and its different features, starting from its appearances to its overall effect. An example given was David and Pieta by Michelangelo. We described each sculpture according to the parts and how it gives us a whole that is solid, pleasing to the eye and proportional in one way or another. Materials such as marble, wood and stone and Techniques such as Carving, Modelling and Casting was also discussed. This was along with the different types of Classical sculptures which is Archaic, Hellenic and Hellinistic. 

During the discussion, it made me realize that each sculpture, as long as it is pleasing to the eye and it passes the requirements of being a fine art, has a main goal of being beautiful. It may be because of the parts that all fall into place, that when put together, it works harmoniously and compliments each other. It may also be because of the proportionality, that there is a certain measurement or ratio followed (7:1). Indeed, size matters. However, if it is not proportionality, each part of a fine art sculpture is made in a way that it compliments the other, there is no overpowering of a certain part. In addition to this, there is also a standard being followed, it is called the Vantage point or a basis for making a sculpture. Furthermore, it was also mentioned in class that a fine art sculpture also represents or imitates living things.

Form follows function was a statement thrown around class. Indeed, there is more than what meets the eye when it comes to sculptures. Everything, starting from the materials & technique, individual parts forming a whole, proportionality, movement and expressions of the body parts all contribute to the overall effect that a fine art sculpture gives.
