1. Your topic is amazing! It is so prevalent in all math classrooms and it is important to talk about it. I love the poster you shared in your project proposal – when I first looked at it, I thought that it was going to be something that separated ‘math people’ from ‘non-math people’, but it was so refreshing to see something posted in a math classroom that shows students that there is no such thing as a ‘math person’, but rather just a person who does math!

2. I really liked how you started by just researching ‘math person’. This really sets the basis of your research well as you are able to see what is out there regarding what a ‘math person’ is, and if it follows your thought process, which it looks like it did! I specifically loved when you said “I want students to know they have autonomy over their learning”. 2. I like the variety of examples you show the explanations for how to make each case. Not only does it give useful information it makes the post easy to follow and flow from case to case. In the main post I read you used the different graphs for representing data.

The format is really good so maybe as more of an extension of what your doing in your "things i learned section" you could keep a running tally of the different topics you have covered to keep readers caught up with each post. Or maybe a "things i still need to learn" or something like that where you list what is needed to be done in future weeks. The whole concept of your Genius Hour is…genius! I always get some variation of the question “When are we ever going to use this?” or “Why does this matter?” from students in class. We should absolutely put a focus on real world applications of mathematics and show our students that mathematics is in fact, everywhere around us.

With the hasty implementation of the destreamed maths course, many teachers were left with little resources and information on coding, so this Genius Hour will help many teachers (myself included) in learning about coding!

I really like your topic choice and it's applicability to both your professional development as a teacher and in connection to the development of the Ontario math curriculum (it is a weakpoint in many current teachers and therefore even more valuable for us as new teachers to have some experience.

2. I really like that you're not only exploring coding languages, but also grounding it in curriculum by researching which programs are being used. Obviously the number of languages that exist and what you can do with them is endless, so having that grounding definitely helps in making your scope manageable. Eventually the steps could involve looking into what coding universities want students to learn, but at this point researching the high school programs is perfect.

I think a very good program for you to incorporate would be Python Block Coding (called BlockPy).
