We would talk about different traditions each family has and things they love about their families. We are going to make a family tree and the students can interview family members to add as much information as possible when creating it. So questions they could ask was where did you live and where were you born. After they complete the family tree they can present them to the class. You can also tie in the fact of foster kids/ adoptive kids when talking to family members.

In these groups they would research the foster system in our country. They will address any questions that they have after reading the book. These research projects will also be presented to the class.

The students will pick 1 or 2 of the friends Hollis makes in the story and compare their friendship to some of their own friendships. The student will make a Venn diagram to compare their friends to Hollis wood's friends.
