While the school wants to have a memorial, Monica’s trying to forget her sister’s suicide. Only, Monica keeps finding things that make her question what really happened five years ago; the locked drawer in her stepfather’s cabinet that contained letters, and her sister’s phone. Monica’s life is falling apart, but one thing’s for sure, the consecutive deaths of five friends could not have been a coincidence.

She can manipulate flames, but she hides it like her mother told her because in her country, people like her are hunted. One day, the king's soldiers pass close to her village and discover her. They torch her village, kill her mother, and throw her in prison for a long amount of time. She is broken out by rebel Frostbloods (ice controllers) to assault the king and save the suffering population, for what they will train her untamed powers. Somewhere along the way, she has to compete in an arena as the king's champion, and will try to do what she has to do then.

It's really dark, but a bit like a more modern version of To Kill a Mockingbird. By which I mean, it's To Kill a Mockingbird, but with more modern-day issues. It's very mild, and like To Kill a Mockingbird, it lacks a very clear plot, but it's still enjoyable. The characters are super interesting, and you can see everything slowly building up and unfurling. It's really lovely, though, and I'd definitely suggest it to maturer audiences. It's kind of dark, though, as I said, so it's probably not suitable for everyone.
I also read The Love and Lies of Rukhsana Ali, which is probably even darker than The Perks of Being a Wallflower, but has a plot and is a faster read. It's also quite lovely.

It is romance novel about a girl who volunteered at and a shelter and became friends with a dog and then that dog got adopted and she fell in love with the guy who adopted him. All while that is happening there is also friend and family drama and her denying the fact that she has a crush. It’s a such a good book that I am rereading for the second time and even though I shared a lot there are a lot of surprises and parts where you are feeling sadness with the characters. One of the ones that actually made me tear up is when the dog is being taken out of the shelter. Hope you read!!
