Teens do not spend too much time on their smartphones in daily life. Parents and other adults like to say kids spend way too much time on their phone, but there is no evidence to back that. Phones can connect you to friends, connect you to reality and daily events, and give a much needed escape from reality.

Parents like to say kids bury our heads in our phones and that causes us to be antisocial and not interact with anyone our age. In reality, the opposite is true. Having a phone allows us to interact with our friends after school and interact with people on social media. Without phones we would not be able to maintain these relationships as well, so if anything, phones make us less social.

Adults will tell you that phones disconnect you from reality and they desync you from the world. Again, the complete opposite is true. Phones allow you to see what is happening in the real world, instead of keeping you in the dark. Russians don’t pay attention to what is happening in their country, and that is causing them to back someone like Putin. In America, we don’t have anyone quite as bad as Putin, and that is mainly because voters know what’s happening. Phones are a big reason for that, and we should not change anything about that.

Grownups will say phones give you an escape from reality, and that is unacceptable. But maybe we need an escape from reality. If your grades are bad and you can’t do anything about it, or someone in your family died, you would want to just escape reality, and not be in the moment all the time. Too much of being out of reality is obviously not ideal, but having this escape in certain situations is very important, and has its benefits.

In conclusion, the amount of time we spend on our phones has its benefits. Phones connect us to the people in our lives that we know, they can build new connections to others, they connect us to the outside world and show us what is happening around us, and they can give us a much needed escape from reality.

Have you ever been told by an adult to put your phone down? Teens do not spend too much time on their smartphones in daily life. Parents and other adults like to say kids spend way too much time on their phone, but there is no evidence to back that. Phones can connect you to friends, connect you to reality and daily events, and give a much needed escape from reality.

Parents like to say kids bury our heads in our phones and that causes us to be antisocial and not interact with anyone our age. Again, the complete opposite is true. Phones allow you to see what is happening in the real world, instead of keeping you in the dark. A Russian citizen said “its all so bad, I prefer to not follow politics, just vote for who’s in power because it seems to be working”.

A students interviewed by New York Times said “The truth is, I do a lot more than scroll through social media or watch stupid videos on my phone. My phone is a portable library that carries all of my favorite books on it. And those stupid videos and posts sometimes completely change my day for the better”. Phones are a lot more than just a waste of time.

In conclusion, the amount of time we spend on our phones has its benefits.
