I was sure it was going to appear. And there it was… nothing." It was a good lead that made me want to read the rest of your vignette. When you wrote "It was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop." it was a bit cliche. When you write another piece try and use more varity in your metaphors and if you are going use a more used metaphor try and put your own twist on it.
