A teacher's role is to make sure students are learning and are engaged in the subject matter. As well as making sure that the class is well organized, for example like discussed in the book, a gatekeeper and a timekeeper.
A student's role is to learn about what is being taught. They are to think critically, especially in a history class. There will also be pop-quizzes to be able to monitor a students progress and it will help them on exams.
There will also be packets that the students will have to fill out and complete as part of the Core Standard.
I would encourage students to research current events and have the option to write about it for extra points. I think it's really important for them to know what is going on in the world today, even with teaching them about the past.

A good strategy to use in history is chunking, especially because it involves so much reading.
I would have worksheets of vocab words where the students would have to match the words to the definitions.
The students will also be assigned to write essays about topics that are important. They will do brainstorms and outlines that will help them, as well as rough drafts

I believe that in order to teach, you must be passionate. Students will only learn what you are able to teach them. It is also not always what you teach them, but how you teach it.

Even though I will be teaching history, I also want to make sure they know that the reading, writing, research, and note-taking will prepare them for the future.
My beliefs in how they learn is by using visuals and being able to keep them intrigued. This can be done by the Power Points, videos, and relating topics to what they know.
