The upcoming Soyuz I launch has become extremely exciting! Everyone has been congratulating me continuously, even though I haven't even gone up yet. Yuri Gagarin keeps trying to talk to me, but I've been so busy that I haven't had the chance. It even seems as though those in charge of the mission have deliberately been separating us with "busy-work". I do hope nothing is wrong, but if there is something, mission control would have already informed me. There have been immense preparations for the launch, and I myself have been getting ready for the big day.

I have heard some strange talk amongst workers around the facility. Apparently, Yuri has received heat from the KGB for sending them a memo that is supposedly "unimportant" and a "waste of our time". I can't think of anything that could be important other than the launch, but I've been told by my superiors that nothing is wrong. More people have been congratulating me, but it feels out of place. To me, it seems like the Americans have something to do with it. It seems as though the actual launch itself has taken the backseat for everyone else, and Yuri's note as well as the Americans have been talked about behind my back. It simply makes no sense.

I can't believe it! I've been in orbit for a while now, and Earth looks absolutely beautiful from up here. The launch was a bit bumpy, but the landing has been told to be 100% safe. I'm going to come back down soon, but I have to spend some more time in space in order to complete my mission's complete function. The only way for me to know if it's time to return is if I receive a transmission, and so I'll have to spend much more time up here. It sure seems like I'll be a celebrity once I return, but it also looked like Yuri wanted to take my place, as he arrived for the launch and demanded to be in a space suit. It was quite strange, and he was escorted out of the facility rather quickly. It seems like something has been hidden from me. I shall continue to orbit for a while, and the next transmission I receive should be the confirmation to return home. Only time shall tell.

I have been betrayed. My superiors have killed me. I have been murdered by them. There is no way out. There is no escape. The capsule's parachutes do not work, meaning I will simply crash into the very Russian soil I left, and I shall perish in the process. I now understand why Yuri wanted to take my place. I know why he sent the note, and why he tried to reach me. He knew. They all knew. They treated me like a hero, because they all knew. Everyone but me. Is it not too much to tell a man his fate? Is it too much to prepare him for the inevitable? This will be my last writing, and the last time any words can be written by my hand. I must simply wait for my inevitable fate. Remember me not as a casualty of an accident, but instead as the warrior who died for his country. Да здравствует Советский Союз.

Cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov's death was a tragedy in all senses. The spontaneous failure of the Soyuz's parachute mechanism was completely random, as all systems in the capsule had been proven safe beforehand. After careful analysis, it has been determined that Komarov's death was a catastrophic accident, and shall be remembered as such. Komarov died a hero, and his legacy shall be remembered as the Soyuz program continues.
