This group of people was called the Quakers. They rejected the ideas of predestination and original sin. Quakers also granted woman an almost equal status as men in their Church. The Quakers were seen as anarchistic and democratic. William Penn was the Quaker who established Pennsylvania. Penn wanted Pennsylvania to be a place of holiness. The charter granted him land that included the land between the Connecticut and Delaware rivers, but it was mostly held by the Dutch. After capturing New Netherlands, James renamed it New York. New York was very divers, with people from Holland, England, Germany, France, and more.
